Find A Bargain In Washington, DC

The capital of the United States might not be the first place where you think bargain, and that assumption is correct for many reasons. Although hotel prices are not so low in Washington, there are so many affordable things to do, see, and eat, that it makes it worth it. If you are looking to experience history and culture in a big city, you don’t always have to be a big spender. Visit Washington, DC and find out how far your dollar can really stretch.

What To Do

What makes Washington, DC such an incredible city is that it provides free admission to almost every museum, and there are many to choose from. There are a number of Smithsonian museums scattered about the city, 18 in all, making it impossible for someone to be left out in the dark.

One of the more notable Smithsonian museums is the National Air and Space Museum, which is an amazing institution for people young and old. There are so many hands-on exhibits to choose from but also exhibits that are more inclined toward the adult crowd. The museum pulls from both science and pop culture in their exhibits, so there is no way you can miss this place when you’re in Washington.

Something that few people know they can do is send in a request to tour the White House. Again, this service is also free but takes some preparation. If you’re an international traveler, you need to contact your embassy at least a month in advance to secure a spot, and for American citizens through a congressman. However, the process is well worth it. So don’t just stare at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, take a look inside yourself!

The National Mall is another must-see site when in Washington, DC. This long landscaped park has a pond in the middle and grassy areas as well. On one end is the US Capitol, another free place to visit, highly recommended. At the other end is the Lincoln Memorial, which is a beautiful place to enjoy the amazing architecture and catch some shade in the summertime.

While you’re at the National Mall, swing by the Hirshhorn Museum, a wonderful art museum located close by. This museum is again, free, and has a beautiful sculptural garden as well as unique contemporary art exhibitions inside the building.

Where To Go Out

Washington, DC has a thriving nightlife scene. If you are looking to enjoy some great jazz up close and personal, go to Blues Alley Club, located at the bottom of the Georgetown neighborhood. Adams Morgan is another fun area to go out in with tons of bars and restaurants and a youthful crowd.

Where To Eat

If you’re looking for a usual place to eat, check out Ledo’s Pizza. This restaurant is famous for their unusual pizza pies which are shaped into rectangles and cut into square pieces. There are a few locations throughout the city, including one in Georgetown, and everyone will find something on their classic menu.
