If you’re planning a visit to the north of Europe, you should consider traveling around the Norwegian archipelago, Svalbard, and if you want a truly extraordinary experience, head over to Longyearbyen.

This small arctic town has only 2,400 residents, most of them nature enthusiasts who were attracted to the extreme climate and conditions in the town, with some of nature’s most wild landscapes at their footsteps. It may seem funny, but Longyearbyen is actually the largest settlement in Svalbard and is considered to be quite the metropolis, with a large and international community. It’s all about the context!

The town has one grocery store, a university center with about 300 students, and the view of whales swimming in the fjord is considered a normal backdrop for your breakfast.

The town is most famous for its views of the Northern Lights. As such, tourism has become a major industry in the town so they have all the necessary amenities and facilities to make your stay pleasant, including a possible meet and greet with a local reindeer.
