Due to its location on the Atlantic shores, Portugal is home to many beautiful beaches, and some of the very best are located in Faro. Located in the far south of this European country, Faro has a rich lagoon system with many tiny islands in its proximity, and here are three that you shouldn’t miss for the world.

Barreta Island

Barreta Island can be easily reached via ferry or boat, and the fact it’s only seven kilometers long shouldn’t stop you from paying it a visit. It’s perfect for people looking for an escape because it’s one of the most secluded islands of Algarve. It’s also home to Faro’s most popular nude beach.

Tavira Island

Another tiny island near Faro, Tavira is only 11 kilometers long, but that’s no stopping it from being home to some of Algarve’s best beaches. It’s part of the Ria Formosa natural reserve, and it offers beautiful white sand beaches and crystal clear waters for practicing water sports.

Culatra Island

Also located in the Ria Formosa, this six km-long inhabited island is pretty tiny but it has something in store for everyone. Its beautiful sandy beaches are the main reason to visit it, but you’ll also get to discover a historic lighthouse while exploring it.
