Costa Rica, a small country located in the middle of Central America, is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in seeing some of the planet’s most captivating and unspoiled nature.

The country is one of the world’s leaders in ecotourism, a type of tourism that supports sustainable and low-impact visits to natural areas. Over one-quarter of the country’s area is designated as a protected area, meaning that it cannot be developed or altered by humans. One of the prime examples of these parks is Arenal Volcano National Park, containing an active volcano.

Also notable is the coastal tropical forest contained in Manuel Antonio National Park, complete with vivid colors and untouched beaches.

Costa Rica is one the world’s most biodiverse areas, a direct result of the varied landscapes of tropical rainforests, deciduous forest, coastal areas, cloud and mangrove forests within its relatively small territory.

A vast number of species of both flora and fauna combined with the amazingly diverse land means that Costa Rica is an optimal destination for a person who is passionate about the environment. One of the best places to see this in action is at the spectacular Monteverde Cloud Forest.
