Charlotte, North Carolina might not be the capital of the state, but the city is actually larger than the capital, Raleigh! Charlotte is famous for being the second biggest financial center in the US but is also home to some fabulous attractions that meld the south and city living perfectly. Whether you are into sports, the great outdoors, or exploring the big city, Charlotte has a little bit of everything for everyone.

What To Do

If you’re a Nascar fan, you’ve come to the right palce. The Nascar Hall of Fame is located in Uptown Charlotte, which is what the downtown of Charlotte is called. Visiting the Nascar Hall of Fame is a great place to take kids as well as adults!

Just 10 minutes from Charlotte is the US National Whitewater Center, and it is absolutely worth driving to. Not only are there ropes courses and loads of activities for kids and adults, but the whitewater rivers are just as intense as you will find out in nature. You can kayak or take a raft ride, everything there is really top notch.

Another great place to spend some time outdoors is Freedom Park. Known to the locals the Central Park of Charlotte, this huge park is located between two beautiful historic neighborhoods called Dilworth and Meyers Park. There is tons of grass to lounge, live outdoor concerts and events during the summer, and even a trail called Little Sugar Greenway that leads you to Uptown!

Once you get to Uptown, there are plenty of museums for you to enjoy. Levine Museum of the New South  is a famous museum that covers the history of the South post Civil War, which is fascinating and crucial to learn about when you’re in the south. There’s also plenty of art museums such as the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, which not only has an expansive permament collection, but also hosts jazz concerts during the summertime.

Where To Go Out

If you’re looking for great vibes, a fun atmosphere, and killer pastries, go to Amelie’s Bakery. The original is located in a neighborhood called NoDa, and is actually open 24/7!  Come to hang out with friends or even to play board games! There is another in Uptown, but the hours there are more standard.

If you want a little bit of a crazier time, head over to the Epicenter, where you will find more bars and clubs than you can imagine. Located in Uptown, the Epicenter is one large complex, so you can always hop from bar to bar, or just find one for the night that suits you.

A neighborhood that is known for great bars and restaurants is Montford. There you can find sports bars, chill neighborhood bars, or fun activities like the famous bowling alley Ten Park Lanes. Montford also has loads of incredible restaurants that use local products, such as Good Food on Montford. Peruse the area and you’ll be sure to find something that fits your style.
