Nairobi is the capital city of the Eastern Africa country Kenya. It is the 10th largest city in the whole continent and is often referred to as the “Green City in the Sun”. What is so unique about this city is that has all of the cosmopolitan amenities anyone expects from a city, with incredible nature experiences just a short while away. Another plus about this city is its weather; unlike some African countries, Nairobi is so high above sea level that the winter never gets too cold and the summer is super comfortable, more like a spring. So if you’re ready for fabulous weather and amazing activities, visit Nairobi, Kenya.

What To Do

Wildlife

If you are an animal lover, Nairobi is the place for you. And if you’re not, you’ll be one by the end of your trip. After you visit the Nairobi Animal Orphanage, you can’t help but fall in love with all the animals. This rehab center gives tours for next to nothing, and you’ll be able to witness a ton of exotic mammals and birds.

If you want to see the animals out in the wild, visit the Nairobi National Park. This is the first national park of Kenya, and it is located just half an hour from the Central Business District! As bizarre as it seems, you can actually see the city in the background while witnessing animals like giraffes, lions, and zebras. It is truly an experience you cannot miss.

Shopping

When you’re in Nairobi, you have to bring home something to remind you and your loved ones on your trip. The best places to buy authentic handmade items is from a Maasai Market. There are many throughout the city depending on the day of the week, and they are run by Maasai women, hence the name. There you will find gorgeous sandals, artwork, woodwork, jewelry, and more!

Restaurants and Cafes

Nairobi has an amazing food scene that is native to Kenya but also has cuisines from all over the world. The Sigiria Cafe is somewhere you have to try because it’s actually located in the urban forest in Nairobi called the Karura Forest. This place is great to stop for a coffee or smoothie as you go on your way through the forest.

If you’re looking for something authentically Kenyan, Amaica Restaurant is a really delicious restaurant that serves up traditional Kenyan food. There you will see the influences of other cuisines that Kenya has soaked up while still making it their own.

The most partying happens Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, but you can always find somewhere to chill out and hear some great music. If you want to bump up the party, visit the Central Business District, Westlands, Ngong Road or Nairobi West. All of these areas have amazing clubs and bars that are full of locals and great energy.
