The Shirogane Blue Pond is located in Biei, Japan, and it’s the most beautiful site in the region. It’s known for its sapphire blue color that gives it a unique look and dead birch trees that make the whole area look like something out of a fairytale.

The Shirogane Blue Pond didn’t exist before a volcanic eruption that happened in 1988. In order to prevent the mudflows from Mount Tokachi to reach the nearby towns, the Biei River was diverted and the pond came to life. Its color comes from mineral deposits.

Swimming is absolutely forbidden because the water is toxic to people, even though it looks stunning. If you visit it, it may look tempting and make you want to dive in, but you should know that’s a very bad idea.

Depending on the season, the Blue Pond can be seen in many different and equally gorgeous shades of blue. Have you seen something similar before? We believe this is a truly unique place in the world and definitely worth a visit if you have a chance!
