Greece has plenty to offer to tourists. Most people visit it for its amazing islands and beaches that spread across the shores of the Aegean Sea, Ionian Sea, and the Thracian Sea. But, Greece also has a rich history that dates back to ancient times and thousands of monasteries that testify about the religion and culture of the Greek people.

One of the most famous monasteries is the Monastery of the Holy Trinity that is just one of the 24 Meteora monasteries located in the central part of the country. Meteora means “hovering in the air” and represents the rock formation with cliffs older than 60 million years.

There’s an incredible history behind the Monastery of the Holy Trinity. It dates back to the 11th century and it was later rebuilt along with other 23 monasteries by the emperor John Uros. Today, the monks live in only 6 of them while the others are empty.

The site became popular with tourists after the 1981 James Bond movie For Your Eyes. It’s available for visits all year long and offers an escape from the real world and experiencing European history, art, and landscapes to anyone interested.
