A Local’s Guide to Spending 24 hours In London, UK

London is one of Europe’s biggest and busiest cities. It contains more attractions than we could possibly count and more areas than most locals have ever visited.

If you just have 24 hours in the city, seeing everything is impossible but you can definitely see enough to get a feel of the city. Here’s a local’s guide.

Morning:

Start In Hyde Park

Start your morning in Hyde Park. It is one of London’s finest natural spots and is lovely to walk through in the morning before it gets too busy. From here, you can walk down to Buckingham Palace where you can see the iconic beef-eaters and get pictures of the queen’s house.

Southbank

From here, walk down to Southbank. There is always a bunch of cool things happening along the River Thames, including buskers and temporary exhibitions. Have a walk down and snap some pictures of the London Bridge and London’s beautiful skyline and Big Ben. If you haven’t eaten yet, Southbank is a great place to grab breakfast by the river.

Cross the Bridge

Next, cross one of the many bridges along Southbank and take a stroll towards Covent garden. Here, you will find quaint cafes and some of London’s finest shops. You can also swing by the opera house and follow the shops towards the world-famous Oxford Street. Be sure to swing by the quirky Carnaby Street which is full of popup stores.

Afternoon

Head to Camden Town

When in London, it’s essential to visit one of the city’s more alternative district. Camden is home to a whole host of alternative culture. You can weave through all sorts of shops and head to the stables for a host of thrift stores.

Grab Food In Camden

For lunch, grab some of the street food in the Camden courtyard. If you walk down food lanes, you’ll be hit by the smells of all sorts of international cuisine. If you’re vegan or gluten-free then no problem – there’s something for everyone.

Primrose Hill

Camden Lock is an amazing spot for photographs. When you get to the lock, walk along the Thames and follow it towards Primrose Hill. This is my favorite spot in London as it is a way for the hustle and bustle of the central city and it has one hell of a view.

Late Afternoon/Evening

Trafalgar Square

If you’re going to do London, you have to swing by Trafalgar Square. You don’t need to spend long there but getting a photo with the lions is a must.

National Art Gallery

The National Art Gallery is free to enter and it is right next to Nelson’s Column. Even if you’re not massively into art, it’s worth poking your head in just because the collection is so impressive.

Night

Soho

While you’re nearby, it’s worth heading to Soho for dinner and drinks. Prices are a little steep but if you’re going to run into a celebrity, this is where it will be.

Shorditch

When you’re ready to have a dance, Shoreditch has some of the best nightlife in the city. From blues bars to box park, there is something here for everyone.

Best of luck!
