Built into the side of a volcano nestled in the Andes mountains, this hotel really gives you the sense of living at one with nature. A waterfall gushes down the side of the resort and wooden bridges swing between the hills and the trees.   

Sala Silvermine, Sweden

Spend a night down in the belly of the earth at the Sala Silvermine in Sweden. At this astonishing hotel, you can pass the night in a luxury room 155 meters below ground level.

Inside the earth. This bedroom suite is the deepest in the world. At 155 m/516ft underground you can really get a sense what it’s like to be in the cradle of the planet. Hand dug over centuries under the village of Sala in #västmanland Sweden, This is one of those unusual hotel stays for sure. You can book this room, and you and a loved one can be underground overnight in complete and total blackness once the lights go out. I found out about this sensory deprivation lodging during my tour of the Sala silver mines. I don’t know if I could last an entire night knowing I was one of only two people deep in a mine.
