The idea of solo traveling is terrifying for a lot of people. That means you’re alone in the place you choose, no family and no friends, but it also means that you have a chance to get to know yourself, to push your limits, to meet new people, traditions, cultures and explore the world, experiencing it in a way you can’t when you’re with someone else.

So, if you have a plan to travel alone, here are a few tips that might be helpful.

Choose your location – that means to explore the place you’d like to visit very thoroughly. Find the sites you’d like to visit, book a hostel with good reviews and check the transport in the location for its prices and safety.

Maps – download maps of all the places you’d like to visit. There are applications that work perfectly when you’re offline so you won’t get lost. Check the police stations and look if your country has an embassy nearby.

Take money and personal belongings with you – never give your passport to anyone, carry your cash in different pockets so you’ll always have a backup in case you lose your wallet.
