The coffee beans hang from trees and once they’re at their peak, they’re ready to be picked, dried, and roasted into the perfect cup of joe. While in India, you can be part of this process while tasting the lovely aromas of the finest cups of coffee. These are the coffee plantations you should visit.
Coorg
Robusta and Arabica are grown in Coorg’s plantations which are surrounded by lakes and hills. Be sure to visit during the berry picking season which is in November.
Chikmagalur
Coffee was first introduced in this Chikmagalur in Karnataka which is located in the Mullayanagiri range. While visiting this plantation, it’s not unusual to see peacocks lurking in the bushes. In addition to being one of the largest producers of coffee in India, Chikmagalur is known for its hiking trails.
Yercaud
Home to the first-ever Indian-owned plantation, MPS Coffee, Yercaud is located in the Salem District of Tamil Nadu. The name for this small hill station comes from the lake that’s in the forest that covers the Shevaroy Hills. Popular tourist locations include Yercaud’s Japanese garden and the watchtower.
Araku
In addition to having an organic coffee brand, Araku is known for its pepper and rubber. While visiting this plantation, be sure to take a hot air balloon ride and a trek to the Borra Caves.
Chikhaldara
As one of the only coffee plantations in Maharashtra, Chikhaldara has beautiful lakes and the hilly terrains of Amravati. It’s also the perfect place for bird watchers.
