Bogota is the heart of modern Colombia and one of its most vibrant cities with significant historical legacy and rich culture.

Visiting La Candelaria, Bogota’s most lovely historic neighborhood, is like walking through the Spanish colonial era. Filled with exciting architecture and unique street art, it makes a powerful presentation of Bogota’s turbulent past and complex present.

Walk around through Plaza de Bolivar and take a break at La Falsa Puerta, the city’s oldest café famous for its hot chocolate and cheese. After that, make sure to head towards the mountain Cerro de Monserrate, a place worth seeing both at night and during the day.

Visit the Gold Museum and wander through the world’s largest collection of pre-Hispanic gold (over 30 000 pieces). Another museum that’s worth a visit is the Botero museum, which houses one of the most important art collections of Latin America. Even if you don’t have an interest in art, you are guaranteed to find the famous Botero’s work dazzling.

Last but far from least on our list of fascinating things in Bogota is the Salt Cathedral. About an hour outside the city, this unique underground cathedral used to be a salt mine.
