Penang is one of the most beautiful and culturally vibrant places you can visit in Malaysia. Be sure to hit up Little India and some of the city’s gorgeous temples. Once you’ve ticked off the main tourist spots, here are five alternative activities you can do in Penang.

Avatar Garden

At night, Avatar Garden or “The Sea of Pearls” becomes a stunning array of colorful fairy lights that conjure images from 2012’s Avatar.

Ghost Museum

If you fancy being spooked, the educational museum shares haunting tales of ghosts and vampires, with horrifying depictions of the supernatural entities of Malaysian folklore.

Take a Hike

There are plenty of hiking trails around Penang but we recommend heading to Teluk Bahang Forest Eco Park for stunning views and wildlife.

Activities at Hin Bus Depot

Take part in painting or meditations at this hippy hotspot of Penang. You will also find lots of wonderful street art.

Snake Temple

The temple was built in the early 1800s for Buddhist monk, Chor Soo Kong. Legend has it that pit vipers found their way to the temple themselves and they still reside here today. Not for the faint of heart!
