The Hungarian capital of Budapest has become one of the most popular vacation destinations in Europe in recent years. The stunning city on the Danube has plenty to offer to travelers, but don’t fret if you’re looking to escape the city for a day trip while you’re there.

Lake Balaton

Located just an hour and a half southwest of the Hungarian capital is Lake Balaton, the largest lake in Central Europe. Here, you’ll find charming towns such as Siofok as well as beautiful historic vineyards.

Eger

Hop on a train and travel just a couple of hours east to the beautiful city of Eger, one of Hungary’s most charming places. The medieval Castle of Eger is one of the many bits of centuries-old architecture that you will find among the city’s breathtaking Old Town.

Gödöllő Palace

You don’t have to travel far to find this Baroque palace, located just outside of the city’s outskirts. Originally constructed in the early 18th century, tours are now provided of this residence, which was once a favorite of Hungary’s royal families.
