Why You Should Pack Lightly

One of the most important steps to tackle before embarking on a big trip is packing. This is a pretty crucial part because packing correctly will ensure that you have everything you need on your trip. However, while it’s important to have all of the essentials, this type of preparation is a very slippery slope. You can very easily start to worry that you need to bring your entire wardrobe with you on your trip, and then some. This is the wrong approach. What you need to be doing is packing lightly, and here’s why.

Embrace a Lighter Mindset

A lighter suitcase means a lighter mind, body, and spirit. Traveling is all about relaxation, embracing change, and accepting your surroundings. A big part of those three elements is about letting go, and there’s nothing more symbolic of letting go than “letting go” of all personal belongings you don’t actually need. Take your essentials, but be honest with yourself about what’s actually essential.

Making Room

To continue to symbolism of letting go, we’ll add that traveling is about making room in your mind for new ideas and cultural norms. This idea can be symbolically linked to intentionally leaving room in your suitcase to fill it later with items that you’re going to buy while traveling. This works on both a symbolic level and a practical level, and you’ll absolutely fall in love with how carefree it will feel to embrace this mindset.
