Where to Eat the Best Chicago Deep Dish Pizza

The age-old battle of which pizza is best, thin crust or deep dish is essentially a question of geography. Most people from the East Coast will tell you that New York’s thin-crust pizza is king, and Midwesterners will say that Chicago’s deep-dish style is the best. While there is room for both arguments, if you ever find yourself in Chicago know where to find the best deep dish!

Giordano’s

On almost every list, the historic Giordano’s will be number 1. The first restaurant opened in 1974 in Chicago’s south side, and today there are over 40 chains throughout the Chicago metropolitan area.

The incredible amount of cheese along with the old Italian style restaurants make it a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. You can even get 2-day shipping on freeze-dried pizzas to most states!

Uno’s Pizzeria and Grill

Uno’s is largely credited with being the founder of deep dish pizza. In 1943, owner Ike Sewell created the first pie although some say it was a different chef from his restaurant. Either way, they have some of the best pizza around and some of the most creative toppings. Why not go to where it all started?

Lou Malnatis

Another Chicago classic to round out the top 3, Lou Malnati’s is another pizza experience you need to try. Lou worked in Pizzeria Uno before breaking off and starting his own pizza shop in Lincolnwood in 1971. It became so successful that the franchise now has more than 50 locations. They pride themselves on fresh California tomatoes and Wisconsin mozzarella. Like the other famous places, wait times here can be long so plan accordingly!
