Pittsburgh has become a great destination both for travel and for work. The fast-growing city in Western Pennsylvania has been known as a Blue Collar Town for decades.

After the steel mills shut down in the 1970s, universities, hospitals, and more recently high tech companies became the focus of the workforce. This causes it to have an old-style combined with a modern feel, making it a great place to visit.

Here are 2 local destinations that will help you experience the city.

Primanti Bros

Perhaps the most famous Pittsburgh food is the “Primanti’s sandwich.” Influenced by Eastern European immigrants who came in the early 1900s, the sandwich is made up of coleslaw, french fries, tomatoes, grilled meat, and melted cheese.

The original Primantis opened in 1933 in the Strip District in 1933, but there are many chains throughout the city. If you want to be like a real local, visit on a Friday afternoon for a “Primantis and Yuengling” to start the weekend right.

Cathedral of Learning

The centerpiece of the University of Pittsburgh stands at 535 feet tall and can be seen from anywhere even on a cloudy Pittsburgh day. The unique architecture and the great views from the top floor make it a great place to visit. “Cathy” is also the tallest educational building in the Western Hemisphere.
