Montana de Colores or “Rainbow Mountain” is located in the Andes, in the Cusco region of Peru, at an altitude of 5,200 meters above sea level. This place has quickly gained fame due to its incredible coloration and has recently become the second most visited attraction in Peru after Machu Picchu.

As the name suggests, this mountain is indeed rainbow-colored. The reason for the rainbow coloration is the abundance of minerals and each color comes from a different mineral. This spellbinding multi-colored mountain, vibrant in the sunshine, is a truly majestic sight. And it’s not just the mountain itself, the entire surroundings are absolutely breathtaking.

It’s important to note that the weather is a key factor for your experience there. The best time of the year to hike is in August when it’s the dry season, especially after sunrise or before sunset. Nevertheless, these naturally vivid colors always look aesthetically. Take some time for yourself, enjoy this magical place and refill your energy. Just be aware that a trip to this mountain is really challenging and 5,200m of altitude is no joke, so you have to be in great shape.

While you should definitely take that into consideration but after all, it is a mountain dressed as a rainbow!
