The Comfort Town is the first residential complex in the country that was designed using the “block development” principle. The rest of Ukraine follows the typical Soviet typology and consists of micro districts.
There’s no doubt that this colorful neighborhood will attract tourists who visit Kyiv. It’s especially interesting for those who are into architecture as its constructors did their best to optimize construction and technology.
The designers did several interesting things—created the district from only 150 repetitions, preserved the valuable green spaces, and made it comfortable to live in.
One of the reasons why the shapes are simples and facades are flat is the limited budget Archimatika had. They also had to optimize their work in that way but we think the final result is great.

]]>Lviv is a city of around 700,000 residents located in western Ukraine, near the border with Poland. Lviv is different from the rest of Ukraine—its architecture is different and it resembles a Central European city compared to the Soviet architecture you can see around the country.
Lviv was one of the main trade centers of medieval Europe and used to be a part of different countries. Today, it’s a modern capital of artistic, scientific, and spiritual life.
Most of the city’s attractions are located within the old center that’s protected by UNESCO. You can check out over 2,000 landmarks here, so prepare for a day of walking and start exploring.
There are many churches and cathedrals that you can visit or you can go climb the High Castle and enjoy the magnificent view. A building you must see is the Lviv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, which was built in the style of the Viennese Renaissance in the 19th century.

]]>Most lists will put Bulgaria as the cheapest country in Europe. Although it is inexpensive, it is not at all underdeveloped or unsafe. Transportation is reliable and there are plenty of budget flights to Sofia, the capital. Vitosha Mountain and the 7 Rila Lakes are both beautiful day trips from Sofia. Hostels are easily found for less than 10$ a night, and a good sit down meal can be even less.
If you are looking for a much bigger country with lots of different cities and things to do then Ukraine might be the place. Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, and Kharkiv are all huge cities with non-stop activities and cheap attractions. Although the roads and public transportation are not as reliable as other countries, the cost of living even in the big cities is incredibly low.
Known as one of the cheapest countries in Europe, Poland is a great place to start (or end) a trip due to its central location and close proximity to Western Europe. With lots of big cities, history, and some good nature as well, this country is well backpacked. While everything is affordable, the low cost of beer and other drinks makes the cities a big hit for travelers wanting to party.

This architectural gem is, without a doubt, the most important religious monument in Ukraine. Over 1,000 years old, St. Sophia’s Cathedral is perhaps the best example of Ukranian Baroque architecture, and even features Byzantine elements.
Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union from 1922 and 1991, and this former empire left a wide range of marks on the country. This massive statue, measuring over 200 feet tall and commemorating the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in World War II, is one of the most impressive bits of Soviet memory in the city.
The Chernobyl Disaster is perhaps one of the things for which Ukraine is most known on a global scale. This nuclear tragedy was one of the most tragic moments in the country’s history, and this fantastic Kyiv museum tells the story of what happened.

The town that was closest to the nuclear power plant, Pripyat, is a focus of these tours, and for good reason. While the Soviet Union is long gone, it turns out that Pripyat is a place where people can experience what life looked like in the country in the 21st century.
The Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, leaving the singular society that once defined it behind. Since Pripyat was abandoned in 1986, however, it’s still possible to see how people once lived in the Soviet Union.
Formerly-inhabited houses and apartments are often a stop on Chernobyl tours in Pripyat, and the old-style decorations and living conditions perfectly represent what life was like in the country.
It’s also possible to walk through schools, shops, and even a children’s amusement that are representative of what life was once like under the regime.
Don’t miss your chance to see what Soviet society really looked out while in Ukraine on a tour of Pripyat!

Nearby, you can find another park dedicated to the famous Ukrainian writer, painter, and humanist Taras Shevchenko.
Sculpture Street is the most fun street in the city. You simply can’t pass through it and not smile. The street was built by architect Avram Miletski many years ago, but, the sculptures that were added in 2009 gave this street its unique charm.

Just the thought of what was going within the walls of an asylum can make you shiver. However, The Willard Asylum in Willard, New York opened his doors in 1869 in order to help people who were incapable of taking care of themselves. The first admitted patient was a woman called Mary Rote, diagnosed as “demented and deformed.” The asylum shuttered his doors in 1995, after 126 years of working. Except creepy, abandoned rooms, the most interesting things are dusty suitcases full of memories, brought by patients.

Kiev is the capital and largest city in Ukraine. This is a place that you could probably recognize from its many monuments and buildings but not put a name to it. Simply walk around Kiev and find one beautifully adorned church after another. One of the most famous churches in Kiev and one of the oldest in the world is Saint Sophia’s Cathedral. There is also the monastery of Kiev Pechersk Lavra, and its most famous building, Uspenski Cathedral. This monastery is located right in the heart of the city and is completely a must-see in Kiev.

Kiev also has many usual things to do you wouldn’t normally find on vacation. Visit the One Street Museum for the beautiful collections of over 7,000 keepsakes and antiques from Ukraine, as well as something quite unique; death masks. Death masks are a mold of a person’s face after they pass away, and the director of this museum has searched the globe for ones of the most prominent scientists, artists, and writers. Some of the masks include that of Sir Isaac Newton, Anna Pavlova, and Leon Trotsky. Although it doesn’t seem like the most cheerful thing to do on vacation, it is really an experience worth having.
If you’re looking to take a bit of a more mellow vacation while in Ukraine, travel down south to Odessa. This city is right on the coast of the Black Sea and as beautiful sandy beaches, which is rare in the area as many in Ukraine and elsewhere in the region are rocky. Odessa is a fun beach city with a lot of history, including buildings like the Vorontsov Palace, and the Holy Assumption Cathedral. What’s perfect about Odessa is that it gets warm enough in the summer to enjoy tanning at the beach, but not hot enough to stop you from walking around this enchanting city.
Odessa has been booming in its gastronomical community. You can experience so many types of cuisines all in one place, and usually with a uniquely Ukranian touch. If you’re looking for a refined but true Ukranian meal, go to Kuraneats. This restaurant is in the city center and says Ukraine from the decor to the traditional dishes, served elegantly and with class. Columbus is the restaurant to go if you are looking to taste the fruits of the Black Sea. This restaurant focuses on seafood, sourced locally by the bountiful Black Sea.
