Many countries are easing restrictions for vaccinated travelers these days, but staycations will still be popular this summer until the borders fully reopen. If you think there’s nothing left to explore in your home country, it’s probably because you’re yet to discover many hidden treasures, and these useful tips will help you get there.

Social Media

If you’re about to embark on a trip, one of the things to ask yourself is who you’re going to travel with (this is, of course, assuming that you’ve decided to not go alone). But choosing a partner for traveling is a lot easier said than done. You might think it’s a good idea to travel with your best friend, but there are other factors to look into. Here’s how to choose an optimal travel partner.

Finances

Whether they’re your best friend or someone you just met, it’s incredibly crucial that you talk about money and budgeting with this person. If you and your prospective travel partner have a similar budget, then great. If you don’t, it’s important to lay out upfront what you’ll be spending and where. This partnership can still work—just make sure there won’t be any surprises.

Activities

Talk to your friend about the places you want to go and the things you want to do. You might be friends, but in another country, you may find that your agendas are quite different. Again, this is totally fine, as long as you know what you’re in for in the beginning. It’s also important to discuss how either of you would feel if you were separated. If one of you wants to stay together at all times, you should probably let the other one know upfront.

For whatever reason, you’ve been given only one day to explore a city. Maybe you have a ridiculously long layover somewhere and have decided to leave the airport. Or maybe you have one day left in a trip and you decided to take a quick train ride to this place. Whatever the case, it’s actually very possible to explore a city in one day, and here’s how.

Manage Your Expectations

Don’t go into this experience thinking that you’re going to be an expert of this place by the time you’re done. In fact, don’t go into it with any expectations at all. Just be open to having an experience, and allow yourself to enjoy the ride.

Hop-On Hop-Off

Now that you’ve adopted the right mindset, it’s time to make a few plans. You won’t be able to see everything, but you can certainly see a few of the major hotspots in the city. One great way to see a lot of the main spots is by using the Hop-On Hop-Off bus service. It’s essentially a tour bus that gives you full freedom to explore each landmark at your will.

Be a Local

In addition to checking out the main hotspots, we highly recommend that you spend some time not being a tourist. We can’t stress this point enough. Do something that any regular local would do, from riding the train to hitting a bar to just hanging out at a park. This is a great way to just get lost in the city and embrace the city culture into your heart.

Traveling around the world has never been as popular as it is today. And if you take the pandemic out of the equation, it’s also never been easier. In fact, it’s gotten so easy to backpack around the world that many people do it alone. If this is something that interests you but you never managed to pull the trigger, here are three reasons why traveling alone is awesome.

Overcoming Fear

If you don’t want to travel alone for reasons that have to do with fear, then that might be all the more reason for you to do it. It’ll be a great opportunity for you to gain more confidence in yourself and overcome that particular hurdle in the process.

Learn More About Yourself

When you travel by yourself, you no longer feel shackled by the pressures of people around you. You can literally be whoever you want—and when you have that freedom, you might just discover new things about yourself.

Connect With The World

Traveling is a great way to connect with the outside world. You meet new people, you explore different cultures, and eat interesting new cuisines. This is obviously something you can do when traveling with others too, but when you do it alone it resonates on a different level.

Traveling is almost always a fun and enjoyable experience, but it can be anxiety-inducing if you haven’t done it in a long time. If you’re feeling uneasy about hitting the road after a long break, use these tips to summon the courage to travel again.

Baby Steps

There’s no need to travel to another country or a continent to satisfy your sense of wanderlust. A weekend getaway in your home country is a good place to start.

Familiar Places

We’d all like to visit the dream destinations from our bucket list once it’s safe to travel again, but that’s not always possible. Visiting familiar places where you feel at home will make you much more comfortable if you’re feeling anxious about traveling.

Follow the Guidelines

Before embarking on a trip to a foreign country, make sure to familiarize yourself with COVID restrictions that are still in effect, and remember to follow all the safety guidelines even when you’re traveling in your home country.

Don’t Go Alone

Traveling solo is an empowering experience, but it can also be pretty scary. Before giving it a shot, try hitting a road with a friend or two to test the grounds and see how you feel about traveling again.

Traveling can be a daunting and at times isolating experience. For all the adventure, novelty, and excitement, none of us are immune to feeling homesick. Here are 5 easy tips to help you feel more at home while traveling.

Pack Photos

A great way to feel connected with home is to bring photographs of your loved ones. This will help you feel that you’re not alone and that they are not so far away.

Develop a Routine

It can be harder to do this if you are on the road all the time, but getting into a routine is a wonderful way of getting habituated to new environments. They offer a sense of control and orientation, wherever you are.

Listen to Your Favorite Music

If you can, try and listen to music from home if the homesick blues start coming your way. This can have a magical effect, transporting you back to your loved ones.

Bring Smells from Home

This could be something like perfume, a candle, or essential oil, something that evokes your home environment.

Potted Plants

Looking after potted plants can be an effective way of staving off homesickness. The act of caring for something else can help you feel calm, relaxed and not alone.

While many of us have finally returned to traveling following the peak of the COVID-19 outbreak earlier this year, there are some precautions and safety tips that we should all keep in mind while venturing out.

A number of risky activities can be what gets a traveler ill while on vacation, and it’s important to remember not to do the following things if you want to travel in a responsible and safe way.

Traveling by Bus

If at all possible, traveling by bus is something that should be avoided during the ongoing global pandemic. The lack of ventilation and close quarters in this transportation option makes it a risky choice for travelers, who should try opting for safer methods like flying or driving.

Not Wearing a Mask

No matter where you are, unless it’s a place where you’re alone by yourself or with the members of your traveling party, you should always wear a mask if there’s any chance that you’ll happen upon other people. This keeps both yourself and the population at large safe.

Forgetting to Sanitize

Sanitizing your hands and the environment that you come into contact with should be a priority during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and that doesn’t change when it comes to travel. Use hand sanitizer as much as you can on your hands, and be sure to sanitize and disinfect other things that you touch like your mobile phone and your tray table on a plane.

Traveling alone has a lot of benefits. You can do exactly what you love, be spontaneous, meet new people, and have special experiences. It is also a great opportunity to gain special experiences you have always dreamed of, such as volunteering at a local school or animal shelter, attending a cooking or photography course, or staying with a local family.

In general, this is a great opportunity to detach from everything, clear your head, and just have fun.

But along with the obvious benefits of a trip alone, there are a few things to consider before setting out.

First of all, maintain your safety. Even if you are traveling alone, make sure to inform your family or friends by phone or through social media where you are and what is your next destination.

Spend your nights in safe places, and those who have received a high rating online.

Choose places to travel that have good, safe, and reliable public transportation. You will not want to get stuck at night in an unfamiliar place because the bus did not arrive, or the train was late.

And enjoy. Traveling alone is an amazing experience and one that you will remember for a lifetime.

People tend to tease the type of tourists that only visit famous locations at a certain destination. Those are the tourists who closely follow the guidebook and want to see as many attractions as possible during their typically short stay, and their choice is absolutely okay.

Self-guided vacations offer more freedom and they’ve been a more popular choice over the past years. Most of us want to explore the life of the locals and try the foods they eat, shop at their local stores, etc. And while finding a beautiful place that isn’t on top-ten lists is definitely awarding, there’s no one right way to travel and nobody can say that this is better than sticking to the proven ways and checking out the main attractions you’ve always wanted to see. Hey, they’re popular for a reason!

Next time someone tries to shame you for wanting to climb the Eiffel Tower when you’re in Paris, don’t let them. Goals like that may be a part of your bucket list and there’s nothing wrong with them, no matter how many people also want to do it. Just because something is popular doesn’t mean it’s bad, even though we’re used to believing that the real gems are hidden from the eye of the public.

Your vacation is your time to rest and do what you love and if visiting only the major tourist attractions brings you joy, then simply do it.
