]]>Once you have a destination (or a few contenders) in mind, delve into some research. Accommodation costs can vary dramatically depending on location, season, and travel style. Research hotels, hostels, guesthouses, or vacation rentals to get a sense of price ranges. Factor in airfare or other transportation costs, along with estimated daily expenses for food, activities, and local transportation.
Don’t underestimate the power of budgeting honestly. Include everything you can think of—meals, entrance fees, souvenirs, unexpected travel hiccups. Remember, it’s better to overestimate than underestimate to avoid unpleasant financial surprises.
Instead of a large lump sum, consider setting a daily spending limit for your trip. This helps with managing your expenses on the ground and gives you a clearer picture of how much you can spend each day. There are budgeting apps that can help you track your daily spending.

]]>Of course, part of traveling is trying local cuisines and experiencing the restaurants, but that doesn’t mean you have to eat out for every meal! If you run to the grocery store and stock up on breakfast foods, or sandwich necessities, you can save money by eating at least one cheaper meal per day.
If you have more flexibility in your schedule and can choose when to take personal days off, we highly recommend trying to book your vacation during the off-season. Each destination has different off-seasons, so make sure to look ahead when you’re planning your next trip!
Some countries and cities have incredible public transportation. This will surely beat any taxi rates (especially when taxi drivers try to take advantage of you being a tourist!). Prior to your trip, try to research the best methods of public transportation to your destination so you don’t feel overwhelmed when you get there.

]]>Be realistic about the cost of things and make a budget that covers everything so there are no unpleasant surprises. Check your priorities and decide where you can spend less and where you want to splurge. This is individual so you need to take your own needs into consideration.
Use a separate bank account for travel savings and transfer money to it whenever you can. It’s a good idea to put a fixed amount aside every month and it will add up quickly. Also, whenever you skip getting a coffee or a meal out or buying something that’s not really necessary, you can transfer a few dollars to your travel account and watch it grow.
Once you have enough saved, and depending on the type of trip you plan to take, consider paying everything upfront. This is convenient for vacations on a single location or cruises, so you don’t have to think about money once you’re there.

]]>However, don’t lose hope! Here are some budget airlines that you should check out if you are looking to plan a trip to Eastern Europe.
Wizz Air, a Hungary-based company, is arguably the biggest player in budget flights in Eastern Europe. Servicing Hungary, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Poland, the Balkans, and the Baltic States with flights from the rest of the continent, Wizz Air is a great choice.
Smartwings is a Prague-based airline that is expanding rapidly and beginning to service lots of Eastern Europe. It has especially good routes to the Balkan states, servicing Greece, Croatia, Bulgaria, Albania, and Montenegro.
SkyUp has only been around since March 2018, but this Ukranian airline is starting to make its mark on the air travel industry. It provides comprehensive service to Ukraine and even flies to unique destinations like Georgia and Armenia.
While Ryanair is an Irish company, I would be remiss to not mention the budget air giant here. While it originally focused on Western Europe, Ryanair now comprehensively services Eastern Europe as well, providing plentiful connections between the region and the rest of the continent.

]]>If you’re tired of spending top dollar on plane tickets, here are some tips that will help you fly cheaper!
Did you know that airline websites use your cookies to monitor your search activity and often raise prices on tickets based on your internet browsing history? Use a private browsing mode to keep the prices from raising based on this practice.
Did you know that the cheapest days to buy plane tickets are Tuesdays and Wednesdays? Due to lower demand on these days, airlines often lower the prices of tickets on these mid-week days.
Google Flights is an awesome tool that helps me to find cheap flights on a regular basis. It gives you all kinds of neat tools like price trends and “explore mode” that helps you look for cheap destinations on the days that you have available for vacation.
There are plenty of email lists and services such as Scott’s Cheap Flights and Jack’s Flight Club that provide a daily email listing current flight deals from a variety of airports, all free of charge! These services are extremely useful for helping to find cheap options.

Are you ready to cut out convenience in order to save up for the trip? Make your own coffee and lunch at home and start cooking instead of ordering takeout. These purchases don’t seem too big, but they quickly add up.
Go through your subscriptions and see what you can cancel, because it’s likely they are costing you hundreds of dollars per year. Don’t want to cut off Netflix and Hulu completely? Find friends you can share a subscription with and share cost as well.
