Jakarta is such a unique capital and such a fascinating place to visit. There are so many different influences based on the history of the city in terms of colonization and the current residents and immigrants. Jakarta was established in the 4th century and was once central to the Hindu kingdom. Going to Jakarta is like being in a thousand places at the same time, but it all comes together in one amazing city that you need to put on your bucket list.

What to Do

Since Jakarta was colonized by the Dutch, you can see their architectural influence within the city. This is most prominent in the Old Town or Kota Tua. There are many colonial-style government and trade buildings that were once used for business and now have been re-purposed into museums and other fun activities to do.

Jakarta has always had a significant Chinese population, and visiting the Chinatown or Glodok neighborhood is a very interesting way to learn about the culture. It was the Dutch who actually created this neighborhood for the ethnic Chinese folks, and you can now find there amazing Chinese food, as well as gorgeous temples like Dharma Bhakti, which is the oldest and was built in the mid 17th century.

Since Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world, it’s only natural to take advantage of the location and go to some fabulous beaches. There are many different islands you can travel to from Jakarta, depending on how much time you have, but if you only want to go for the day, one of the best is Bidadari Island. Allow yourself to relax and see some of the most incredible blue waters of your life.

Indonesia has such a rich history, it’s really worth taking some time to understand it. To do this, go to the National Museum of Indonesia where you will see artifacts from prehistoric times that really tell the story of the country through art and other relics. The National Gallery museum is also within the same area as the museum and showcases famous historical and modern artists, so it’s nice to visit both and compare the ancient to comtemporary.

Just across from the museum is the National Monument, which is an important reminder to the people and country of the power of liberation. It was constructed to commemorate Indonesian independence after so many years of colonization.

Nightlife and Food

If you want to taste some real authentic Indonesian food in a feast like setting, go to Lara Djonggrang. This restaurant not only serves traditional food like you’ve never seen before, but the interior of the restaurant is decorated in artifacts and unique treasures from Indonesia.

Jakarta is all about the nightlife, and if you love to dance, you have to hit up the club Fable. It’s super popular with the locals and has amazing local DJs that really step up the party.

If you’re in the mood to get some fresh air and be on an amazing rooftop, go to the bar BART. BART has the best cocktails with the best view, and there’s always an awesome DJ spinning great music.

When people think of India, they probably think of Mumbai or Dehli, but there are so many other incredible cities to explore in India that don’t get talked about enough. Hyderabad is one of those cities.

By population, it’s actually the fourth largest city in India, and it’s the capital of the southern region of Telangana, so it’s definitely worthy of some attention. What makes Hyderabad so much different than other Indian cities is the Muslim influence that can be found in every corner of the city. So if you want to explore a part of India that is often overlooked, you have to hit up Hyderabad.

What to Do

One of the most iconic symbols of Hyderabad is the Charminar. This monument is also a mosque and was built at the end of the 16th century for reasons no one can quite agree upon. Some say it’s because of the founding of Hyderabad, others say because of the second Islamic millennium, but no matter the reason, this stunning structure cannot be missed, and you really cannot since it’s right in the middle of the city.

Golconda Fort is such a cool excursion just slightly out of the city center, but so worth it. The fort is actually a fortified citadel which was built and rebuilt several centuries ago, and though it was used as the capital of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, it is now a large diamond buying center because of it’s proximity to diamond mines. With many acoustic and architectural feats, it should not be missed.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B1vTOhMFqVl/

One of the most unique parts of the city is Hussain Sagar, which is a lake that was built in the shape of a heart at the end of the 16th century. Not only is the lake beautiful in and of itself, but about 25 years ago the city built a giant statue of Gautama Buddha inside the lake, which makes it even more of a special site.

If you’re interested in seeing more of the artsy side of Hyderabad, you have to check out the Maqtha Art District. This is a relatively new revamped area that’s very close to Hussain Sagar, so there’s no excuse not to see it.

Maqtha is popular for the incredible street art decorating the buildings and side streets and gives you a totally different perspective of Hyderabad.

What to Eat

Though biryanis are popular all over India, a lot of people say the ones in Hyderabad are the best. This is because they’re made differently than other places in India, as the meat and rice are cooked together not separately. One of the best places to get it is at Meridian Café and Restaurant which is known for serving the most excellent biryanis in massive portions.

Lukhmi is a street food that you can’t miss out on. It’s similar to a regular crispy, fried samosa, but it’s square and filled with delicious spiced meat that you will surely get addicted to.

The street food you’ll probably see the most is papdi chaat, which is basically a deep-fried dough shell that is filled with potatoes, chickpeas, onions, spices, and more. It’s delicious and crispy and the perfect snack.

Nepal is a small South Asian country that is most famous for having part of the tallest mountain on Earth within its borders, Mount Everest.

Many people come to Nepal to climb this famous mountain, but, in recent years, it’s been so overcrowded that it’s becoming a fatal trek.

But, there is so much more to Nepal than just Mount Everest, and it’s truly a place of great beauty and adventure.

What to Do

Whether you’re a religious person or not, there’s no way you can skip out on seeing the town where Buddha was born.

In the small town of Lumbini, there are several Buddhist temples and monasteries as it is a place of pilgrimage for many Buddhists. The supposed birthplace of Buddha is in the Maya Devi Temple, so try to see it and as much as you can while you’re there.

Onto another religion and region, in Kathmandu, you cannot miss out on seeing the famous Hindu temple called Pashupatinath. This is the most sacred place for Hindus in the entire country and is another place where people make a pilgrimage to.

Just outside of Kathmandu is a small town called Bhaktapur. While it might not seem like much, the real attraction is the town square which is called Potters’ Square.

The city is famous for clay pottery, and the square is where the artisans leave their works out to dry in the sun. So, if you’re a crafty person or are looking for a unique gift to bring home, you have to head to this spot.

If you’re still a nature person but don’t want to train and push yourself to do Everest, there is still plenty of nature to explore in Nepal. One of the best places to go to is Chitwan National Park, which is a national park but also a jungle! While you’re there, you’ll definitely witness amazing wildlife like elephants, crocodiles, interesting birds, and perhaps one of the 600 rhinoceroses that roam the land.

Another wonderful place to visit if you love adventure and being outside is Lake Fewa. This lake is perfect for water sports, or just walking around the perimeter and taking in the beautiful views. Not only is the lake stunning on its own, but you have an up close and personal view of the Himalayan Mountains, which will absolutely take your breath away.

Food

Nepalese food is so delicious, you can’t visit without trying as many traditional dishes as you can.

One thing you will definitely see on the streets is momos, which are a type of dumpling filled with either some type of meat or often vegetables. It’s normally served with a red chili chutney that is to die for, so don’t be afraid to dip in!

One of the most recognized dishes in Nepal is dal bhat, which is a dish with rice, a soup made from lentils with vegetables and chutneys to accompany it.

The best place to get it is from a restaurant called Bhojan Griha in Kathmandu. This restaurant serves you a traditional Nepalese meal in 4 courses, and you will be so glad to have your belly full of traditional goodness.

Bali is quickly becoming a hotbed for travelers, social media influencers and yogis alike. It’s an island paradise for practicing all your passions and sports.

Not only is it a great place to meet other digital nomads, but the scenery is extensive. From rocky mountains to cliffside temples, you’ll want to put Bali on your list of places to visit.

The Four Seasons Resort in Bali is a little more on the luxurious side but if you have the time and money to spend, you should splurge in this tropical hotel paradise. It’s also great for honeymoons, and for post celebrations.

They don’t play music too loud so you can still lounge by the pool without being too bothered by the music. If you’re looking for more quiet time, you can chill on one of their cozy hammocks and read a book.

Great Service

Customers who’ve been to this glamorous hotel have raved about the excellent service from the staff. Kep is a city in Cambodia located in the southern part of the country. This region is famous for the islands off the mainland coast, the incredible seafood, and one special type of pepper called the Kampot pepper. This pepper can be very spicy or mild depending, but the flavor is very floral and a little citrusy. Just outside Kep is a special pepper farm called Sothy’s Pepper Farm, and if you are ever in the area, you need to go visit!

At Sothy’s Pepper Farm, you can take a tour of the farm and see how these peppers are grown and what the process is like. The farm not only has tours of the actual peppers, but there is a shop where you can buy some really delicious types of peppers that are made from the plants, and there’s even a restaurant on the premises too!

If you are a foodie, you should definitely do this experience because it’s so exciting to see where this unusual pepper grows and how they make it into some really wonderful products. But, even if you’re not a foodie, it’s so fascinating to see the fields and learn about the process.

Even the capital of Seoul int’s always appropriate to show public displays of affection with your significant other, especially during the day, so couples in Korea have found a new way to show their love for each other: matching outfits.

When you visit Korea, you might see a lot of people wearing similar or sometimes the exact same outfit, and that most likely means their in a relationship. The idea is to wear matching outfits with your partner so you can feel connected to them without having to be physical. It represents a commitment and the union between the two people, which is actually really special.

Located in the autonomous region of Tibet in eastern China is the spectacular city of Lhasa. It serves as the capital of Tibet and could also be considered the world capital of Tibetan Buddhism.

Those who are looking to visit a unique place and discover holy sites in Buddhism need look no further than Lhasa for an incredible and special experience.

The beauty of the city is enough to take your breath away, but when you consider the city’s location at 12,000 feet above sea level, you’ll need to do so even more!

The original home of the Dalai Lama before the figure’s flight to India was the Potala Palace, located in Lhasa. This 17th century palace complex is located on top of a rocky hill and some say that it looks more like a religious fortress.

Another must-see Buddhist site in Lhasa is the Jokhang Temple. The temple contains a shrine to the deity Shakyamuni, and is widely considered by Tibetan Buddhist to be the holiest place in their religion.

If you find yourself in Lhasa, don’t forget to visit Norbulingka as well. These beautiful gardens host a palace which served as the summer residence of the Dalai Lama until the 1950s flight of the figure to India.

Anyone interested in Tibetan Buddhism must put Lhasa at the top of their list. Go as soon as you can!

Manila is the capital of The Philippines, a country that is made up of over 7,000 islands. Manila is a bayside city and was first conquered by the Spanish in the 16th century, so much of that history influence combines with the inherent Asian culture to create a stunning, modern city. Whether you want to learn about the background of the city, enjoy some of the best shopping in Asia, or walk along and Bay and enjoy the view, Manila has so much beauty and excitement to offer to tourists, you really can’t miss out on seeing it for yourself.

What to Do

The Intramuros is probably one of the most famous sites in the city. It is a walled part of the city that was built during Spanish colonization and is located in the oldest district of Manila. There are about 3 miles worth of stone walls that enclose the area, and within are some really beautiful remnants of the Spanish imposition. One of these is Fort Santiago, a citadel that not only holds much history but is currently enjoyed by the residents of Manila for picnics and enjoying the Intramuros.

Binondo is one of the other most famous areas in Manila and is actually the oldest Chinatown in the world, established right after the Spanish arrived for the Chinese residents to reside. Even centuries later, it is still one of the most popular shopping streets and is the best place to find incredible Chinese restaurants, as well as famous Chinese street foods like century eggs and dumplings.

There are tons of museums in the city that cover all types of topics. If you want to learn about the city and the country throughout an anthropological lens, visit the National Museum of Anthropology. If contemporary art is more your style, head over to Museum of Contemporary Art and Design. If you’re looking to delve deeper into the history of the ethnic Chinese in the context of the country, go to the Bahay Tsinoy located in the walled city.

What to Eat

Filipino food has the perfect blend of Spanish influence with native Filipino flavors. One restaurant that combines both of these factors so well is the restaurant Abe. Considered the best restaurant in the city, you can’t afford to miss out on the traditional dishes they do.

Locavore is another restaurant you have to visit. What this restaurant does that many places don’t is they use French techniques to cook native Filipino ingredients. The results are super flavorful, inventive, and sometimes even traditional dishes that will absolutely satisfy.

Part of being in Manila is not just eating in nice restaurants, it’s about experiencing a plethora of street food. One good place to find it is at Quiapo Market. This is a real local place, so it’s perfect to get Filipino delicacies like balut if you can stomach it.

Another good market to check out for street food is Conception Public Market. There you will find everything from traditional fried seafood dishes to sweet desserts.

South Korea is a really progressive country in some ways, but in other ways, it’s still a very conservative place.

Some people do this only on special occasions like anniversaries, and some people do it any day they’re going to be with their significant other. This visual representation is also a cool way to see how your personalities and styles combine and meld, whether it’s totally harmonious or if you pick elements from each of your styles to create outfits. So, if you ever find yourself in Korea with your partner, why not try matching and see how it changes your perspective.
