In almost every part of the globe, there comes a season when it is too cold outside to go swimming. But does that mean that we all have to refrain from the joys of pools and water parks? Of course not! The solution is indoor water parks, and there are some pretty impressive ones around the world. Here are just a few.

Therme: Bucharest, Romania

Therme Bucuresti is actually so much more than just an indoor water park. More of a resort that boasts a water park as one of its features, Therme also offers steam rooms, saunas, mineral jacuzzis, indoor and outdoor pools, pool bars, infrared treatments, and more.

World Waterpark: Edmonton, Alberta

Located inside the West Edmonton Mall, World Waterpark is a massive compound featuring 21 waterslides as well as a zip line and a wave pool. Coolest of all? The near-vertical loop goes up to speeds of 40 miles per hour.

Tropical Islands: Krausnick, Germany

If you’re in the Berlin area, a day trip down 45 miles south to Tropical World indoor water park may be well worth it. True to Germany’s nature, it’s located in a former zeppelin hangar, but the atmosphere is much more, well, tropical these days, with an indoor beach and everything.

Ashikaga Flower Park is a famous park in Japan, but not for cherry blossoms that we typically associate with the country. Instead, it’s famous for wisteria flowers, also known as fuji. They grow on tall frames so the blossoms are all around you when you enter the park. It looks absolutely stunning during the day, but the lighting also makes it beautiful by night.

The park is open all year long during the daytime. The winter lighting works from 3:30 to 9 p.m. so if you visit the place from October to February you get to enjoy it in this lovely setting.

April and May represent the peak season when the flowers are in full bloom. Around Christmas, the park becomes the place where people gather to watch light shows that are especially interesting for couples. The landscape also includes other flowers like tulips, roses, and tropical water lilies that all bloom during their own seasons.

You can easily spend a whole day in Ashikaga Flower Park as it offers various snacks and gift shops.

Russia is a huge country filled with amazing places to see. One of the lesser-known Russian wonders is Village of Nikola-Lenivets, located around 140 miles away from Moscow in Kaluga region. It’s nothing like any other village you’ve seen – it’s a park, an open art exhibition, and a camping site that spreads on the area of 1600 acres.

There are over 30 art installations around the village and they are beautifully integrated into the landscape. To visit them all, you’ll need a day or two, because they are spread around the village.

The exhibition pieces change all the time. Any artist can submit a project and it will be installed if it fits the general concept.
