Nashville is best known as the world’s capital of country music, but there’s more to this city than meets the eye. The capital of Tennessee is home to many attractions you wouldn’t expect to find here, including a full-scale replica of the Parthenon in Athens.

This building may seem like a strange choice for Nashville, but it’s not a coincidence it was built right here. This city is actually known by the nickname “Athens of the South”, and that’s why the replica of the Parthenon was chosen as the centerpiece of the Centennial Exposition in 1897 when it was built.

The original Nashville Parthenon wasn’t meant to be permanent, but it was eventually rebuilt with concrete after significant deterioration. Designed by the architect William Crawford Smith, this replica of the popular Greek landmark can now be found in the middle of Centennial Park.

Nashville is one of the most well known southern cities in the US, and is the favorite of people who want to get away for a weekend and have a totally unique experience. Nashville is famous for being an institution of country music, but there is so much more than just that. Nashville has an awesome cultural scene, and if you want to feel refreshed and inspired, it’s a great city to visit.

What to Do

You can’t go to Nashville without paying homage to country music in some way, and the best thing to do is to go to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. This attraction is very popular and actually really fascinating, so you can’t miss out on it.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B0YJU3kg8s-/

If you want to stay outside and see some living history about country music, you have to go down Music Row. This area is famous for being the home to many studios that produced legendary stars like Dolly Parton, Elvis Pressley, Taylor Swift, Johnny Cash and more.

Nashville has a very interesting park called Centennial Park, and there are plenty of great activities to do there like hiking and walking trails, different gardens, and more. But, the real reason to come to Centennial Park is to check out the Parthenon. The Parthenon in Nashville is an exact replica of the one in Greece, and it is quite stunning.

If you want to do a fun group activity, you should definitely check out Paddle Up Nashville to do all sorts of paddleboarding on the Cumberland River! If you’re with family or a group of friends this is such a fun and unique activity you can do right in the center of Nashville.

If you’re looking to do some shopping and check out cool art deco architecture, you have to go to the Gulch neighborhood of Nashville. There you’ll find the Frist Art Museum which has so many cool rotating exhibits, along with high-end restaurants, boutiques, and more.

Dining and Nightlife

For the cooler, more eclectic side of Nashville, you have to go to the East Nashville neighborhood. The Five Points area is where a lot of nightlife goes down, but you can also go there to see the amazing street art.

The Grand Ole Opry is a legendary venue in Nashville that’s had a weekly country show going on for almost 100 years. Whether you like country music or not, you have to try to get to this place, you really won’t regret it.

Nashville is famous for a specific type of southern food called hot chicken, which is a type of fried chicken with a spicier twist. Bolton’s Spicy Chicken and Fish is probably the best hot chicken you can find in all of Nashville, and if you don’t eat there, you’ll be sorry you missed it. If you can’t make it Bolton’s for the hot chicken, you should definitely go to Hattie B’s for a good runner up.
