Houston, Texas, is a great city to be in, whether you live there or visit. You can get immersed in its vibrant community, explore its amazing culture, and enjoy some amazing food. On top of that, it is a perfect starting point for an exciting road trip.

If you are in Houston and looking for road trip ideas, check out some of our recommendations below.

Galveston

This resort city is situated on an island that is just an hour’s ride from Houston. It offers plenty of attractions and activities that will make your road trip a complete success. This includes walks down its scenic pier, a fun time at Galveston Schlitterbahn waterpark, or a visit to the picturesque Moody Gardens botanical park.

Dallas

There is somewhat of a rivalry between Houston and Dallas, but that shouldn’t stop you from visiting Texas’ third-most populous city. Dallas has inspiring architecture, one of the largest art museums in the nation, and plenty of diverse attractions that will keep you occupied.

Brazos Bend State Park

If you prefer to experience nature, then Brazos Bend State Park is a good choice. Open year-round, it allows you to get close to wildlife while also taking part in recreational activities like hiking and fishing.

Out of all the states in America, one of the most popular and prominent is none other than Texas, also known as the Lone Star state. One of the reasons it’s so popular is due to its history and iconic reflection of Southern culture. That being said, it’s pretty big as well, so if you’re thinking about going there, you’ll have to choose a particular city—and these three would be great options to start with.

Houston

You’ve probably heard the phrase “Houston, we have a problem,” and this is a reflection on the fact that NASA is based in Houston, Texas. Astronauts directly communicate to Houston when they’re in outer space, making this Texan city truly one of a kind. If you’re into that kind of stuff, visiting there is a no-brainer.

San Antonio

If you’re more into the iconic history of the South, look no further than San Antonio, which is the very location of the well-known Alamo. Beyond that, you can also enjoy the beautiful scenery at the Riverwalk.

Austin

Finally, one of the most popular cities in Texas is its capital, Austin. Here’s a city that is truly unlike any of its contemporaries, being that it’s a hotbed of progressive ideals and trendy culture. Given that the rest of Texas is a bit more traditional in nature, Austin is somewhat of a black sheep in the best of ways.

Most people visiting Houston are there to explore its rich history of space exploration, but this city has something in store for everyone. Nature lovers will feel right at home in Texas’ largest city—especially if they decide to visit one of these three beautiful parks.

Hermann Park

If you want to fully explore Hermann Park, you should probably put an entire day aside. This gigantic park covers 445 acres, and it’s home to several of Houston’s must-see attractions, including Houston Zoo, Japanese Garden, Houston Museum of Natural Science, McGovern Lake, and so much more.

Memorial Park

Surpassingly enough, Hermann isn’t even Houston’s largest public park. That honor belongs to Memorial Park, which spans almost 1,500 acres of beautiful land, covered with lush trees, running trails, a golf course, and a botanical garden.

Discovery Green

Discovery Green covers 12 acres in downtown Houston and it’s one of the city’s best-equipped recreational areas. Walkways, fountains, dog runs, and public arts are just some of its amenities, but most people come here for Kinder Lake and frequent public events hosted on a large performance stage.

Houston is one of the world’s no. 1 destination for astronomy lovers because it’s home to NASA’s leading training facility. If you’re looking forward to exploring NASA’s rich history of outer space, Space Center Houston is the place to be.

Located less than a mile away from NASA’s training facilities, this space-themed museum serves as the official visitor center of the NASA Johnson Space Center.

Their doors are open every day between 10 am and 5 pm, but it’s a good idea to check working hours on their official website since they sometimes stay open for longer for the Galaxy Lights special events.

Space Center Houston has been around since 1992 and it went on to become the city’s top tourist attraction and a Smithsonian Affiliate museum. It’s the best place to explore the American history of space travel because it covers 250,000 square feet, filled with unique space-themed exhibits.

From Starship and Astronaut Gallery to Independence Plaza that features the world’s only Space Shuttle replica, Space Center Houston is an amazing experience for people of all ages. Its exhibits are both immersive and educational, and they even offer film and live presentations that will give you an insight into the astronauts’ lives and incredible missions.

The United States of America is a region that has lagged behind the rest of the Western World when it comes to train travel in recent decades. While Amtrak was once a widely-used and profitable company that transported travelers throughout the country, it has now largely been replaced by flights and car travel.

One project in Texas is planning to put a small dent in this trend, however. Its name is the Texas Central Railway, and its plan is to develop a high-speed train connection between the major cities of Dallas and Houston that will reduce vehicle traffic between these two major cities.

This project would link the two cities in a matter of only an hour and a half, providing a great opportunity for tourists and residents of Texas alike to make a quick trip between Houston and Dallas, two places that are definitely worth visiting.

While construction has not yet begun on the line, which plans to operate at nearly 200 miles per hour, steps are currently being made for the plan’s execution. A bid from the Spanish rail company RENFE was recently accepted, meaning that the construction of this project should begin soon.

This will make the Texas Central Train the first high-speed rail line in the United States, providing a unique chance to travel in speed between these two cities and experience something that we could once only dream of.

“Houston, we have a problem” is not a thing you would say in this city – unless you’re complaining about the little time you have left to check out all the great things in this city. To make experiencing Houston easier, we offer you three must-see attractions while you’re visiting.

Cloud Column

It’s a stainless-steel sculpture made by the artist Anish Kapoor in 2018. Located in the sculpture garden of the Museum of Fine Arts, you don’t need a ticket to see this masterpiece. Alongside it, you’ll find other pieces from famous artists like Frank Stella, Ellsworth Kelly, and Henri Matisse.

Houston Livestock and Rodeo

If you wanted to see the largest rodeo in the world, this is it. The three-day event has different parts incorporated including an outdoor carnival, livestock exhibition, different concerts with a lot of celebrities and the main act – the rodeo of course.

Saint Arnold Brewing Company

The oldest craft brewery in Texas is located in a huge three-story building completed in 1914. It offers four free tours a day where you can see the brewing equipment, but you can also enjoy the beer hall where you can have a try from their tasty menu.

Cajun cooking is rooted in tradition, be it the flavors or the cooking technique, especially in a place like New Orleans. However, there is amazing Cajun cooking go on outside of Louisiana, and if you’re a Cajun food lover, you have to see these places and try out their version of Cajun cooking.

Houston

About 350 miles west of Louisiana on the other side of the Gulf of Mexico is Houston, Texas.

Although Texas, in general, is known for Tex-Mex and their specific kind of BBQ, a lot of people don’t realize the city of Houston is booming with Cajun food. Not only is there Cajun food just as good as New Orleans, but it might also even be better with the addition of new traditions, set by the immigrants in the community.

One of the best-known styles is called Viet-Cajun, which is a combination of Vietnamese and Cajun, which go perfectly hand in hand.

Beijing

This might be even more surprising, as few people would think of a Chinese city as being a hub for Cajun food. But, with a community of crawfish at their disposal, the people of Beijing have taken their own twist on Cajun food, using classic Cajun ingredients.
