]]>The first thing you want to do is to wash your body thoroughly before entering the baths because this is a must in every onsen in Japan. Every onsen has a shower area where you are required to wash.
There are only a few onsens that will allow bathing suits, but in most of them, you will be required to be completely naked. Also, keep in mind that you are also not allowed to dip a towel or your hair in the water.
Japan has a complex relationship with tattoos because they are associated with the mafia. That being said, tattoos are strictly forbidden in most onsens, but people with smaller tattoos can cover them with a bandage and should not have trouble getting in.

]]>One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Tanzania is located just north of Moshi, close to the entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park. Materuni waterfall is over 400 feet tall and quite impressive. The trail is about 30 minutes and passes through local villages including banana and coffee plantations.
Back in the center of town, grab a beer at the Old Railway Station, an abandoned ticket booth along railroad tracks which locals turned into a bar. This is one of the best views of the mountain and what better way to experience it than with a little bit of history and a locally brewed Kilimanjaro beer!
Later on, if you are looking for a relaxing day, Kikuletwa Hot Springs is just for you. Located about an hour and a half from Moshi, this crystal clear spring is lined with acacia and fig trees. Although the water isn’t extremely hot, it has a comfortable warm temperature and is a great, peaceful place to relax.

One of the coolest attractions in the area is an active volcano that you are able to climb and peer over into a bubbling lava lake. The red fire and intense smoke will make you feel like you are on another planet, and it is one of only 6 lava lakes in the world.
The hot springs and chemical reactions in the geysers combine for a colorful and unique landscape. Lower down is the area of the salt flats where each year the tiny amount of rain causes the upper layer of salt to replenish after the natives harvest giant salt chunks to sell in nearby markets. If you’re lucky you can catch a glimpse of the Afar people, who survive in the hottest habitable place on Earth.
