The holiday season is traditionally a time for family gatherings and festive cheer, but there’s something uniquely magical about embarking on a solo vacation during this time. Embrace the freedom, self-discovery, and joy that come with a one-person holiday escape. Here’s how to make the best out of your solo adventure and why traveling alone during the holidays might be the ultimate gift to yourself.

Embrace the Magic

The holiday season often brings a special air of magic to popular destinations. Take advantage of this enchanted ambiance as you explore foreign streets decorated with festive lights. Enjoy sitting at a local park or stroll through historic districts, where you can absorb the atmosphere without any distractions.

Indulge in Self-Care

What better opportunity for self-care than a solo holiday? You can book a spa day, treat yourself to a gourmet meal, or spend an entire day taking things slow in cozy cafes with a great book. This is your time to pamper yourself, choosing activities that bring you joy and relaxation.

Connect With Locals

The holiday season is an excellent time to connect with locals and immerse yourself in the authentic spirit of your chosen destination. From attending local holiday events and joining community celebrations to striking up conversations with residents – the sky is the limit! You’ll discover a deeper connection to the place you’re visiting, and who knows? Maybe you’ll end up making long-lasting friendships.

Create Your Own Traditions

While holiday traditions often revolve around family, a solo vacation allows you to create your own meaningful rituals. Whether it’s watching the sunrise on a deserted beach, sampling local holiday treats, or reflecting on the past year, establish traditions that resonate with your personal journey and aspirations.

Reflect and Renew

Use the solo holiday as a time for introspection and renewal. Reflect on the year gone by, set intentions for the upcoming one, and revel in the personal growth that solo travel inevitably brings. Solitude can be a great way opportunity for self-discovery, allowing you to go back home with a fresh perspective.

During holidays, you expect to be joyful and free of any stress. But that is quite hard to do if you need to travel somewhere by plane during this time of the year. In order to get to your destination, you need to deal with crowds, high prices, possible flight delays or cancelations, and much more.

Luckily, there are some tips that can make your holiday flights less stressful. Check them out below.

Get Your Tickets Early

By booking your flight early, you ensure that you don’t miss out on your seat on the plane, which can easily happen if you wait until the last moment. Also, there is a chance you will get a better deal.

Book a Direct Flight

Things can be quite unpredictable during winter. The bad weather causes common flight delays, which is why you should always book a direct flight to your destination. You don’t want to miss out on your connection due to a delay or have it canceled for some reason and then get stuck in a place where you definitely don’t want to be.

Don’t Wrap Your Gifts

Avoid wrapping your gifts ahead of time and then taking them with you to the airport. TSA won’t hesitate to unwrap them for a routine check, and you’ll have to do everything again. Also, pack the gifts in your carry just in case your checked bag gets misplaced.

Make an Alternative Travel Plan

It’s better to have an alternative plan and not use it than to have none at all. In terms of alternative travel plans, book additional tickets with another airline for a later flight to keep yourself safe from possible cancellation. If you don’t want to spend money on another ticket, then make preparations and plans for a driving route just in case.

‘Tis the season for Christmas markets galore, and when it comes to this holiday pastime, few places do it better than Eastern Europe. Holiday markets throughout the region have an authentic cultural charm not found in cities in other parts of the world, offering visitors the opportunity to shop for handmade gifts and sip mugs of mulled wine against a backdrop of snow-dusted Gothic architecture. Here are a few of our favorites.

Vörösmarty Square, Romania

Budapest’s most famous Christmas market features a unique blend of local tradition and festive charm. With dozens of stalls featuring handmade crafts, cuisine, and a children’s theater, there’s something for visitors of all ages to enjoy. Those looking to learn more about the market and surrounding area can also sign up for guided tours—with stops for mulled wine and cake, of course.

Tallinn Christmas Market, Estonia

Every December, a dusting of snow and a few decorations transform the heart of Tallinn’s medieval Old Town into a winter wonderland. Estonians take Christmas very seriously and are often credited as one of the first groups of people to bring the tradition of displaying trees for the holiday to Europe. In addition to several Christmas trees, the Tallinn market also features crafts, local cuisine, and even a merry-go-round.

Old Town Market Square, Poland

Warsaw is home to several holiday markets, with the annual Old Town market being the largest and most famous. The city’s historic center is a sight to see decorated with lights and an 80-foot Christmas tree, which add an air of celebration to the otherwise quaint and cozy area. Stay warm with a hot cup of spiced wine as you shop for Polish crafts, or grab your skates and hit the rink outside the Palace of Culture.

Over the past few months vacations have been put on hold, but with the holiday season coming up, travel is unavoidable. If you’re traveling to spend the holidays with your family, there are tons of rules and restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic to keep in mind. Here are five tips to consider when planning holiday trips this year.

Pre-Check State Requirements

Before you leave, make sure and check the requirements for traveling to your destination as well as those for leaving/returning to your current state. Many states require quarantines and negative COVID-19 tests.

Be Smart About Airlines

Some airlines have stricter practices when it comes to social distancing than others like blocking the middle seats. If you can afford to upgrade, sitting in first class may offer more space.

Avoid Layovers if Possible

With more stops, you’ll be coming in contact with more people, which increases your risk of exposure. When possible, choose direct flights.

Arrive Early

Be prepared for usual holiday delays plus new ones due to safety precautions and long lines. It’s best to arrive a few hours before departure to allow for these issues.

Stock Up on Safety Essentials

While most flight have been handing out sanitizer wipes on board, you should also bring your own to sanitize your seat and tray table. You can now even bring a bottle of 12 ounce hand sanitizer in your carry on. Also, don’t forget to wear a mask and keep it on throughout the flight and when you’re at the airport.

Have you ever experienced a White Christmas before?

This magical occurrence happens when, on Christmas Day, the ground is covered in snow. Despite our romanticized, idealistic visions of winter wonderlands at Christmastime, the reality is that the chances of seeing a White Christmas are actually quite rare!

With this in mind, these maps might help you plan a trip to a North American or European destination where you’ll be likely to see a White Christmas. These are, without a doubt, the two continents that are most well-situated to experience a White Christmas.

As you can see in the map of North America, if you want to have a snowy holiday, you should look north or head out to the Rocky Mountains.

Some of the cities that you can visit if you want to have a good chance to see a White Christmas include Minneapolis, Denver, Salt Lake City, and Chicago!

Meanwhile, in Europe, there are quite a few options for travel if you want to experience the wonder of a snowy December 25th. The Alps are an almost sure thing, whereas cities like Stockholm, Moscow, and Vienna all see decent chances of snow on Christmas.

Which destination will you choose to see a White Christmas?

Most people get days off once the holiday season arrives and choose to explore new countries just in time for New Year’s Eve. Unfortunately, this is that time of the year when everything comes with a higher price tag, but you can still lower your expenses with these useful tips.

Early Bird

Booking your accommodation early is always a good idea since you’ll end up finding better and cheaper accommodation, but that’s especially true with holiday trips. If it’s too late for that, consider booking a trip with an agency or check out last-minute offers.

Affordable Destination

Even if you end up spending a lot of money on your booking, you can still save them on other things. That’s why it’s always smart to pick a destination with affordable prices and explore free activities you can do in this city.

Amazing Company

The best thing about the holiday season is that you get to spend it with people you love, so why not use this opportunity to visit your friends and family living abroad? They’ll probably be happy to welcome you into their home and show you around – free of charge.

December means one thing in Central Europe: mulled wine! This festive holiday drink is the hot beverage of choice in Christmas markets and in cold outdoor get-togethers throughout this magical region.

Here are some of the best cities to stroll around and enjoy a cup full of mulled wine.

Vienna, Austria

Austria’s version of mulled wine, known as Glühwein, is exceptionally popular in Vienna during the winter season. This version is made with orange and cinnamon, and it’s perfect for sipping and staying warm as you stroll through the Schönbrunn Palace’s gardens, where the city’s Christmas market is held.

Dresden, Germany

Dresden, located in Eastern Germany, is another great place to try mulled wine. The city’s Striezelmarkt has a handful of stands that sell the Dresden version of the product, containing berries and citrus fruits, to cold visitors.

Prague, Czech Republic

Svarak is the name of mulled wine in the Czech language, and while you won’t find the same type of Christmas markets as you will in German-speaking countries in Prague, this beverage is a perfect accompaniment for strolling around the city’s charming old town, which can get quite chilly in winter!

The holidays are one of the most popular times of the year for travel. Millions of people find themselves passing through airports during the months of December and January in order to visit family across the globe.

If you find yourself flying this holiday season, cross your fingers that you will end up at one of these four airports with beautiful, festive holiday decorations!

Chicago O’Hare International Airport

Chicago’s main airport is one of the most beautiful places that you will find during the holiday season. Here, in Terminal 3, O’Hare hangs up elaborate ribbons and lights that give a magical holiday air to the air travel experience.

Singapore Changi Airport

It should come as no surprise that one of the fanciest airports on Earth goes all out for the holidays. At Changi, you’ll find a massive Christmas tree forest as well as a light show that transforms the airport’s famous central waterfall into a snowstorm!

Munich International Airport

In this German airport, the holiday spirit is alive and well. You will find a 50-foot tall centerpiece tree decorated with 5,000 lights as well as 450 smaller trees decorated with various themes around the airport. Oh, and there’s also a fully functional Christmas market.

Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport

Schiphol also does it big for the holiday season. The biggest Dutch airport not only has a huge variety of lights and Christmas trees, but Santa and a gang of roller skating elves also make periodic visits in the terminals.

Traveling during the peak holiday season at the end of December can be an extremely stressful experience. The combination of crowds, holiday stress, and bad weather can turn this process into an all-out nightmare.

However, if you follow a few tips, the process can be made a little more bearable. Here are some things that you should do if you want to avoid travel stress this holiday season.

Avoid Traveling on Peak Days

There are certain days that travelers should try to avoid if possible when traveling during the holidays. The weekend before Christmas and the weekend after Christmas are always chock full of stressed travelers, so why not try to fly on an off-peak weekday instead?

Try to Book Direct Flights

One of the things that can really complicate air travel is a layover. Delayed flights or long lines can make it hard to make your connecting flight, possibly stranding you at a random airport far from your destination. Try to book direct flights to avoid this possible conundrum.

Arrive at the Airport Early

Let’s be honest: sometimes, the “two hours before your flight” guideline that airlines and airports suggest for your arrival isn’t necessary. However, when flying on busy days like the ones near the holiday season, it’s absolutely worth it to show up early and give yourself plenty of time to wade through long lines and security delays.
