]]>Recently, a Roman local, Valentina Petraroli decided to help out the tourists by sharing her best tips on how to pick good gelato in Italy. Instagram user Jasmine Belle Pak captured Petraroli’s lesson on camera, and it resulted in a viral video that quickly spread across social media.
According to Petraroli, the first thing people should look for when they enter a gelateria is the containers. Good gelato comes in flat containers that are sometimes even covered with a lid. If you see “the big mounds” in containers, that is a good sign that the gelato is full of air and likely not as tasty.
The next thing tourists should pay attention to is the color of banana, pistachio, and mint gelatos. Banana gelato should be white and not yellow, pistachio gelato should have an “earthily dull” color and not “turtle green,” while good mint gelato is usually light green and not “glowing in the dark.”
Another good thing to pay attention to is which types of flavors the gelateria offers. Petraroli says that if a gelateria has a ridiculous number of flavors, they are industrially produced and not homemade. Also, if there is one “fake” flavor, the rest of them will usually be fake as well.
So there you have it. Next time you visit Italy and are craving a gelato, make sure to keep these tips in mind before getting one.

]]>Perché No! is known for being the best gelato in Florence. Located on Via dei Tavolini, this place is a must-go for Florence visitors looking for the best cure for their sweet cravings. They also have flavors that change seasonally, so you’ll never get tired of visiting!
A cute, family-own gelato shop is enough to make your heart soar, but wait until you see the portion sizes! This place really knows how to load a cone (or cup).
Another shop that people claim has the best gelato in the world would have to be My Sugar Gelato Artigianale. It is by far some of the smoothest and tastiest treats in Florence!
Cantina del Gelato does more than just gelato (although we recommend trying the gelato because they have super unique flavors!). They also serve crepes and smoothies.
RivaReno Gelato Firenze will leave you dreaming about their gelato long after your trip is over…seriously, read the reviews on Google! This place gives all other gelato places some true competition.

]]>What sets this shop apart from the other many gelato shops is its attention to ingredients. The sorbets contain nearly 50 percent fruit and the crema flavors are comprised of organic eggs, milk, and cream. The gelato is whisked downstairs from the laboratory, freshly churned, and then poured into the tubs.
While this Gelateria della Palma is always crowded, it’s definitely worth the wait. The ice cream parlor has a sweeping counter and sidewalk terrace, but the real selling point is the over 150 types of gelato. The ice cream is 100% handmade and there are soya, milk-free, gluten-free, and sugar-free options.
Fiordiluna focues on the classics like chocolate, crema, lemon, and coffee and they use top-notch ingredients from local, producers. There are also fun twists like the popular duetto, which is a mix of pistachio and hazelnut.

]]>Some ice cream parlors will offer you bright yellow banana or bright green pistachio flavors, but that isn’t what you’re looking for. If the colors are too bright, it means that artificial coloring was added. Go with the ice cream that looks more natural.
The best gelato doesn’t have a lot of air in it, which means it can’t be piled up too high. Use this trick to tell if the consistency of the gelato is right, which will tell you if you’re having cheap or high-quality ice cream.
If you want to try fresh, delicious gelato, don’t go for fruit flavors that out of season. Chances are you won’t love your strawberry gelato in the middle of November.

]]>Florence has some very famous sites that you cannot miss out on, but as for most things in the city, you have to pay and get your tickets in advance. Most of the attractions in the city cost money, so plan ahead and decide what you want your itinerary to look like.
The Duomo is an outstandingly beautiful cathedral with a terracotta tiled dome that can be seen all throughout the city. The lines get pretty crazy for this, so either go early in the morning or you buy your ticket ahead of time. This is luckily one of the sites that you can really enjoy just as much from the outside as from the inside.
Piazzale Michelangelo is a little bit of a hike, but the views of the entire city you get make the climbing worth it. The best time to go is when the sun is setting, but you really enjoy this overlook at any time of day. They also sell very reasonably priced bottles of wine, and it can be one of the most romantic spots in the city.
Piazza della Signoria is a square close to the Gucci Museum and is on your way to the Uffizi. It has a large sculpture hall including the fake David!
The famous Uffizi is the biggest museum in Florence and has many famous artworks like the Birth of Venus. It is also home to an extensive collection by Michelangelo’s and should definitely be planned in advance, sometimes they are booked for a couple of days in a row!
If you’re going to Italy, you need to come with an empty stomach. With all the pasta, pizza, and paninis, there is something for everyone. For paninis, you have to go to Antico Vinaio. This is one of the most famous panini places in the city, so around lunchtime, there will be quite a line. However, the sandwiches are so delicious and you have such incredible spreads, cheeses, and meats to choose from, it’s worth it.

If you are looking to try the Florentine steak, you have to go Trattoria 13 Gobbi. Just beware that if you don’t like rare steak, this dish may not be the one for you. They also have incredible rigatoni bolognese and more!
Of course, you can’t go to Italy without getting gelato. One of the most famous gelaterias is even on the same road as Antico Vinaio, so you know you’re in the right place. The name is Gelateria Dei Neri, and has so many flavors your head will be spinning. Try something different like a ricotta gelato, it is so creamy you won’t be able to imagine your life without it.
