]]>For those looking for a way to travel while following current pandemic protocols, a cycling trip between Belgium and the Netherlands might just be perfect for you.
You have two options for starting your trip. You can begin in Belgium on the coast, usually in Knokke or Ostend. Or, you can start in the Netherlands in Zeeland. Zeeland has a number of towns like Breskens which are very picturesque. Whatever route you decide to take, it will give you the chance to cycle along the shoreline of both countries.
You should stop along the way, and enjoy the Belgian and Dutch coastline. Each of the seaside towns has its own charms, and Knokke is known as the Hamptons of Belgium. You may want to end your cycling tour here and enjoy a few days in the sun. After all, Belgium is known for four things: beer, waffles, chocolate, and French fries. Those are basically the four most delicious foods and drink on the planet. You won’t be disappointed by this socially distanced adventure!

Even if you’re not planning on cycling in the dark, best not leave things to chance with your safety. Be sure to have a headlight, a taillight, and some spares.
Set up a couple of bottle cages on your bike, and perhaps a hydration pack if you want to be able to drink without stopping.
Bring the basics: handlebar mirrors, several locks and chains, a good reliable pump, a repair kit including spare tubes and a multi-tool, and some zip ties. You won’t regret it.

There are many well-known bike races through Belgium in the Spring, so the roads can get quite crowded. For a more challenging ride, head to the hills in the South.
Denia can be found in mainland Spain in Alicante. Just like Mallorca, the area has been designed with cyclists in mind. There are lots of different terrains to explore, depending on your cycling ability. Regardless of how hard you want to cycle, there are also lots of sandy beaches around, for a well-earned relaxation period.
If you want to cycle a mountainous range, the Dolomites in Northern Italy offer 300km to explore. Unless you have a very long vacation, you will not be able to explore the whole area. But there are lots of different areas that are bike-friendly, packed full of suitable accommodation and hire shops to service your cycling needs.
For warm weather all year round, the Spanish island Lanzarote is a great place to cycle. The volcanic landscape provides flat roads, as well as some major climbs. Enjoy the views and then refresh in the clear blue ocean.
