]]>So, when you get to your destination, how can you keep both Fido and yourself happy? Here are some great plans that both canines and humans will enjoy.
Any destination next to the ocean will offer up beaches for you to explore with your dog. Whether it’s soaking up rays in the summertime and going for a walk, or getting some exercise and enjoying the views in cool weather, you will both love this experience.
Fortunately, these days, most eating and drinking establishments are pet-friendly when it comes to sitting outside. So, why not spend some time letting your pup take in the sights and smells of a city while you relax and have a beer on a patio?
Urban parks have had a renaissance lately, with more and more cities pumping resources and attention into their green spaces. Not only will visiting a city park grant you a reprieve from the craziness of sightseeing and traveling, but it will also afford your pooch the opportunity to stretch its legs.

]]>It’s really important that your dog is comfortable during the trip, even if it’s not for very long. Try your best to make room for him or her in the car so they don’t feel too cramped and act out. Also, if your dog has special toys or stuffed animals, make sure you bring them. Being in the car is totally out of their comfort zone so it’s important to make them feel safe.
Of course, your dog will need to talk a bathroom break every so often during the trip. But, if you can, try to plan the bathroom breaks around human breaks as well. Use it to get some snacks or a meal, or to stop and see something like a special site or museum along the way to your final destination! Also, research restaurants that will let you bring your dog in or onto the patio if it’s a nice day so you can all bond!

]]>Every pet has a different personality and tolerance towards change. This can be based on their age, breed characteristics and life habits. If you train your pet from an early age to spend hours in the car with you, there’s a bigger chance for things to go smoothly.
Pets love to be entertained, and you can make them more comfortable by bringing things they are familiar with and that already have their scent. They will feel more at home, surrounded by a toy or a blanket they love.
These are super useful if your pet is on the hyper side. This way, you will ensure that your pet doesn’t accidentally get hurt and it prevents them from freely roaming around in your car or trying to get into your lap while you drive.
Don’t forget to bring their health certificate, as well as their passport if you are traveling to another country.
Make frequent stops for potty breaks and stretching. Pausing for some fresh air can be beneficial for both you and your pet, and can prevent any unhappy accidents from happening in the backseat. Taking breaks more often is necessary, especially if your pet suffers from motion sickness. If this is a serious problem, you can always ask your veterinarian for some anti-nausea or anxiety medication.
Check if the places you’re staying in are pet-friendly. Many hotels and hostels nowadays have a pet-friendly policy, but it’s better to check with the staff in advance, so you can make sure your pet is welcome everywhere you go.
