Austin, Texas, is a city brimming with vibrant energy, a music scene that pulsates, and delicious Tex-Mex on every corner. But amidst the urban buzz lies a hidden gem, a place of tranquility and natural beauty: Lady Bird Lake. Here’s why you should check out Lady Bird Lake on your trip to Austin.

Outdoor Activities

Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or a casual adventurer, Lady Bird Lake caters to all. Rent a kayak or paddleboard and glide across the glassy surface, taking in the stunning views of the Austin skyline. For a more leisurely pace, rent a swan-shaped paddle boat and enjoy a romantic cruise.

A Refuge for Nature Lovers

Lady Bird Lake is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. Keep an eye out for blue herons wading in the shallows, turtles basking on logs, and playful otters frolicking in the water. The lush Zilker Metropolitan Park, bordering the lake’s southern shore, is great for birdwatchers with over 300 species recorded in the area.

Relaxation and Entertainment

Sometimes, the best activity is no activity at all. Spread out a blanket on the lush green lawns of Zilker Park and soak up the sunshine. Plus, if you’re lucky, you might just catch a live concert or outdoor movie screening at the iconic Zilker Hillside Theater.

Rio de Janeiro is a fascinating city that is bustling with culture and has an incredibly rich atmosphere. It would be easy to spend weeks there without exploring it all. However, if you only had a short amount of time there, here are some things that would be well worth doing.

Corcovado Mountain

The world-famous ‘Christ the Redeemer’ statue sits atop Corcovado Mountain and is one of Rio’s most iconic sites. It gets incredibly busy during the day, however, so it’s best to get there as early as possible if you want to avoid the crowds. You can reach the top by hiking or taking a train. Either way, there are stunning panoramic views of Rio and the coast once you reach the summit.

Copacabana Beach

Copacabana Beach is in some ways the cultural heart of Rio de Janeiro. It is busy all year round, but that is part of the appeal as you can soak up the atmosphere. People are constantly playing football or volleyball, or swimming in the ocean. Why not bring a ball and join in the fun?

Sugarloaf Mountain

Sugarloaf Mountain is a promontory of rock just off the mainland of Rio. You can take a cable car up to the top and gain stunning views across the city, as well as of the Christ the Redeemer statue. Sugarloaf Mountain is a fantastic place to visit at the sunset as well as the views are incredible.

If you’re not a city person and you’re traveling to a city, it might start to seem overwhelming after a while. There’s beauty in the chaos, but the constant noise, people, smells, and smog may make someone from a less urban area claustrophobic. If you start to feel that creep over you, you might be looking for some places to get some peace, quiet, and privacy. Here are the best spots to look in most cities.

Parks

Most big cities have a few big parks or gardens that are accessible by walking or public transport. Going out to the middle of them should get you a fair distance away from the noise, and no one will be trying to bother you or pushing past you in a rush. If you’re in a more dangerous area, though, try not to be there alone at night.

Libraries

Again, most cities have a public library will plenty of space for reading and studying. And since it’s the library, quiet is required. They generally aren’t crowded, and they’re usually set up with a few desks in secluded corners where you can get away from others.

Museums

The one downside to museums is that they often cost an entrance fee, although many cities do have some free museums in an effort to make arts and culture accessible. In a museum there’s usually a mandate of respectful hush, and they’re usually clean and spacious which should help with feelings of claustrophobia.

However, if you enjoy exploring history, art, and architecture, this northern Europe city may have a lot more to offer than you think.

Tallinn is one of the rare European cities that has a well-preserved historical center. It hosts a fortress that was built in 1050 A.D. which is located on a hill in the center of the city. The 14th-century architectural masterpieces are nearby and it’s impressive that they survived centuries of changes, wars, and conquerors.

The architecture of the city was influenced by many different cultures over time. The city is an eclectic mix of Danish, Swedish, and German influences with its historical center being a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Epping Tower offers a glimpse into Estonian medieval history. Those who’re more into art can enjoy artworks from the Social Realism current and classics from the 18th century Estonia. All this tells us that Tallinn is a true gem that’s just waiting to be discovered by a horde of tourists.

Siobhan Ferguson, the founder of the Pretty Cities brand, curates this account which showcases different Instagrammers’ shots of cities around the world. Instead of just reflecting one person’s experiences in a limited group of cities, it instead draws photos and inspiration from a big community of travel bloggers and amateur photographers.

The Pretty Cities provides snapshots of a wide range of cities, from large, internationally-known capitals to smaller and more unknown cities that have a charm that many haven’t experienced.

Urbanism is enough to excite any city lover, and the harmonious blend between shops, pedestrians, commuters, and tourists define the environment of any city that experiences tourism. The Pretty Cities puts the focus on places where this blend has been achieved.

In short, if you love cities and want to find ideas for your next destination, I cannot recommend this account enough!

If you can’t decide between a beach vacation and a city break, these five cities are your best bet. They have a rich culture and plenty of things to do and are homes of some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Barcelona, Spain

With fascinating history and architecture and rich nightlife, Barcelona has plenty to offer. The capital of Spain’s Catalonia region has several beautiful beaches that both locals and tourists adore.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Copacabana and Ipanema are probably the most famous beaches in the world and they’re both located in Rio de Janeiro, one of the biggest cities in South America.

Cape Town, South Africa

From Table Mountain to numerous beaches and museums, Cape Town is a South African city you should visit at least once in a lifetime.

Tel Aviv, Israel

Israel’s Tel Aviv is a cool city with a rich history and culture, but its beaches are one of the city’s main attractions. With around 300 sunny days per year, it’s a safe option for a perfect vacation whenever you go.

Los Angeles, CA

L.A. also offers great weather throughout the year and so many wonderful beaches you’d have a hard time picking which one to visit.
