]]>Most people get so fixed on price, location, or photos of the accommodation that they forget to look at the reviews. The reviews from other Airbnb guests will allow you to learn if the place is really as good as advertised and reveal some of its flaws.
You should always double-check the location. Even if the listing states that the place is close to the city center or a location that fits your needs, you should look on Google Maps to make sure that is correct.
Some hosts won’t hesitate to cancel a stay if they think they can get a better price for their Airbnb. Luckily, you can see the history of canceled stays by a host on the platform, and you should avoid these bookings if you don’t want to have your entire trip jeopardized.
You should be aware that staying in an Airbnb and a hotel is quite different. While some hosts will try to mimic the service and amenities of hotels, others will simply give you the keys to the place and expect you to take care of anything extra by yourself.
You should always check the house rules first before making the booking. While most Airbnb listings have standard house rules, like no smoking and quiet hours, others might not allow additional guests or pets.

You won’t be able to lounge around on the sofa in your pajamas, but you will still have your own room that should be totally private.
What better way to learn about the area than from a local? Make the most of staying with someone in the area and ask for their tips and recommendations, as well as any interesting facts or history.
Usually, people get on well in these situations, and you may well stay in contact and go and stay with them again.

]]>It was way back in 2001 that the chatty sidekick told his ogre friend, “We can stay up late, swapping manly stories, and in the morning, I’m making waffles!” And now, 22 years later, Airbnb is giving you the chance to taste Donkey’s cooking.
The home-sharing platform is offering up to three people the opportunity to spend a weekend at Shrek’s Swamp in the hills of the Scottish Highlands. Covered in mud and moss, the spot once served as a safe haven for exiled fairytale creatures.
“Shrek’s Swamp is lovely. Just beautiful. The perfect place to entertain guests,” claims Donkey, who is hosting the stay. “You know what I like about it? Everything. The overgrown landscaping, the modest interiors, the nice boulders, all of it. I can’t wait for guests to experience this muddy slice of paradise for themselves.”
That experience will also include swapping stories around the fire, chilling in earwax candlelight, and enjoying some parfait. And, of course, don’t forget about the waffles!
The magical stay is scheduled for October 27 to 29, and won’t cost you a thing. Bookings open on October 13 at 6 PM (BST).

]]>Hosts have increased their rates, and some guests have reported being given chores to perform like stripping beds and taking out the trash. The combination has led many travelers to consider staying in hotels instead, believing it provides a better, less expensive experience. Airbnb’s co-founder and current CEO, Brian Chesky, has said that hosts should be realistic when setting their prices.
“We want prices to move and to be more competitive vis-à-vis hotels — that is really important,” he said. “When our hosts provide better deals, they tend to make more money.”
Chesky recommends that hosts take a look at the going rate for hotels in their area “so they have a sense of what travelers are getting on other platforms.”
Guests will now also be able to see the exact amount they will be paying when scanning prices. Previously, Airbnb had excluded taxes and cleaning fees on the given rate, leaving some with a rude awakening just before clocking “confirm”. In a bid to be more transparent, all fees will now be included in the price shown.

]]>The law, also known as Short-Term Rental Registration Law, was passed in January 2022. Some of its rules include that only two paying guests can occupy a single Airbnb or other short-term rental and that the host needs to be presence at a property during the rental period. It also forbids locking internal locks in the property, turning hosts and guests into roommates.
Hosts will also be required to register with the Office of Special Enforcement (OSE) and get their short-term rental approved. If they don’t register or fail to comply with the rules, they will be subject to fines between $100 and $1,000. Guests, on the other hand, won’t be penalized if they stay at such property.
According to lawmakers, the intention is to put an end to illegal short-term rentals, ensure guests’ safety, and bring relief to the stressed housing market. It is important to note that Local Law 18 only applies to rentals that last less than 30 days.
Airbnb will honor the reservations made on its platforms until September 5th through the end of the year. After that, only hosts registered with OSE will be able to publish their listings.

The founder of Goop owns a 1-bedroom guesthouse in Montecito that she describes as her sanctuary for respite and mental clarity when she needs to recharge. She is now offering that space to 2 guests for a single night — September 9. The stay will also include a transcendental meditation session and a spa day featuring Goop products.
Ashton Kutcher is known for having some wacky ideas. This is, after all, the guy who created Punk’d. His latest plan was to open the beachfront home he shares with wife Mila Kunis in Santa Barbara to the Airbnb community. Luckily, she was onboard. Part of the one night only arrangement was that the That ‘70s Show couple would stay in the house with the guests, with all snacks and meals being provided.
While the other two rentals focused on relaxation, Seth Rogen is throwing some creativity into the mix. His Los Angeles home offers incredible views from its floor-to-ceiling windows, and guests will be able to indulge in the Pam & Tommy actor’s record collection and the contents of his fridge. In addition, Rogen will offer a ceramic making course so they can share in his creative process.

Amongst the exquisite locations was a villa where two characters spend a girl’s night. In the show, the opulent house is located in Noto, but in real life it can be found in Palermo.
Titled Villa Tasca, the residence is nothing short of luxurious and those willing to fork out $5,949 a night can rent it on Airbnb. With four rooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms, a formal dining room, and a sparkling pool, it is the type of place where you can relax with friends.
The 1500s home also boasts a billiard room, a music room with a grand piano, floor-to-ceiling windows, renaissance furnishings, frescos on the wall, a greenhouse, citrus grove, and a private lake complete with swans.
As if all that wasn’t enough, guests won’t have to lift a finger as their stay will be equipped with a housekeeper, manager, butler, two room attendants, and private chef.

]]>It is not uncommon for extra fees such as cleaning and linen service to be tacked on outside of the displayed cost. In some instances, hosts may expect these fees to be paid in cash. Always be sure to read the full description and the “house rules”, as well as reviews to check for extra service costs. And when checking in it’s a good idea to have some cash on you just in case.
The best resource on any internet service is the reviews section. Always be sure to read reviews of the apartment when considering booking. Sometimes when an apartment doesn’t have reviews yet, the host may have reviews for other apartments they rent out. Go ahead and read these reviews, as a good host is usually a sign of a good apartment.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. You can always message a host before booking. If you’re worried about extra fees, accessibility, parking, or anything else, write a message to the host and ask before you decide.
