If you’re taking a short trip, looking to save money on baggage fees, or perhaps just looking for a smoother airport experience, then travelling with carry-on luggage only is an ideal solution. Still, packing light comes with its own set of challenges given the limited space and weight on offer. Here are some tips to help you travel with carry-on luggage only.

Remember Your Personal Item

What’s great with many airlines is that they allow you to bring a personal item on board the aircraft in addition to your carry-on luggage. This could be a purse, laptop bag, or even a musical instrument. Make sure to take advantage of this perk so as to maximize what you can travel with. A large tote bag could also pass as a personal item, making for a great way to bring extra baggage.

Use Packing Cubes

In addition to keeping items separate and easier to find, packing cubes are also good at compressing these items and minimizing the space they take up. Simply divide up your possessions by category and pack them in separate packing cubes before putting those in your carry-on.

Pack Cosmetics Carefully

Even if you are intent on applying makeup on vacation, remember that you don’t need to take your entire collection with you. Also, consider decanting large bottles of liquids into smaller bottles that are more appropriate for the shorter trip.
