Devastating wildfires have gripped many beloved tourist hotspots. The Hawaiian island of Maui is grappling with mass blazes, while reports of wildfires have also come from the Greek island of Rhodes and the south of France. Thousands of people have had to evacuate, with many losing their homes and lives. Traveling to these parts is strongly discouraged, but if you find yourself amidst the madness, here are some things to remember.

Keep Up to Date With the News

A lot of false information can be spread during chaotic situations. Stick to reliable sources of news and check official channels for any communication. Stay informed about evacuation plans, road closures, and any emergency alerts.

Stay Safe

Air quality can be particularly poor as a result of all the smoke. If you have any respiratory issues, consider staying indoors or wearing an N95 mask if you must go out. It is possible to check the air quality index (AQI) for the area you’re in. Anything above 100 is considered unhealthy, while a score of 301-500 is hazardous.

Grab & Go

When authorities tell you to evacuate, it is crucial that you do so immediately. Prepare ahead of time by packing an emergency supply kit filled with water, non-perishable food, a torch, batteries, cellphone chargers and power bank, and essential medication.
