There are dozens of technical issues that may arise on your way to the airport that you’re probably not taking into account. Your mobile pass will be useless if your battery or data runs out or if you end up cracking your screen by accident.

If you’re not used to having the phone in your hands at all times, fishing it out of your bag over and over again may be incontinent. Your hands will be busy as it is, and you’ll have a much easier time finding your boarding passes if you put it inside your passport.
