Check It Out: Germany’s Virtual Reality Water Slide

Water and VR headsets are two things that you would think should not mix. Even phones which promise to be “100% waterproof” have a habit of getting damaged on even the most casual beach outing and water slides tend to require a bit of vigilance concerning what is going on around you.

Still, Germany’s leading water park, Galaxy Erding, decided to go against the odds and create the world’s first VR water slide. As of last year, guests have been able to ride the slide while experiencing augmented reality.

Riders zoom down a chute on an inflatable dinghy while experiencing weird and wonderful worlds. Riders can choose from a range of adventures which range from intergalactic enterprises to snowboarding.

The company behind the VR slide is called “Ballast” and they plan to introduce waterproof VR to more slides in the future. Reportedly, they plan on eventually creating an entire aquatic setup, featuring VR pools in addition to slides.
