Sometimes the gaudiest adventures are the most fun, Graceland is no exception. Be prepared, regardless of your former opinion to be totally seduced by the talent and home of Elvis Presley.

If you are anywhere remotely by Memphis, TN you must tour the famous home of Graceland. While the tour can be crowded and overwhelming but is still absolutely worth it. Graceland, the former mansion of Elvis and Priscilla Presley has been preserved perfectly to reflect Elvis’ original decorations and aesthetic. You are able to listen to an audio tour or just observe the home and grounds.

While you cannot move around quite freely in the house (in order to preserve the interior), the guided tours are still interesting and informational. You are able to explore his kitchen, his racket ball court, living and dining rooms, the grounds around his house and so much more. Across from the Graceland home are also gift shops, a retro diner, museum galleries celebrating his achievements (especially his wardrobe) and a movie theatre to view some of his best performances. If you decide to stay in Memphis for a while there are plenty of other amazing activities including countless blues and jazz clubs in the downtown area and the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel.

One of the most beautiful parts of traveling abroad is making friends around the globe. As a traveler, you are able to experience cultures through these people and if you are fortunate enough to visit them you can stay with a local!

Experiencing a city from a local’s perspective always gives a richer understanding of a culture and makes travel much more affordable. When your friends and family visit your home sometimes it can feel overwhelming to show them a good time.

Before your guests arrive there are a few things to prepare. First of all, make sure you have the ingredients for a homecooked meal. There is a pressure to try all the best restaurants (which you can still do) but it is important to ease your guests into being at your home, give them an opportunity to settle in and also show them that they are welcome!

Make sure if they are interested in specific places to visit that they have the time to go to them, always put their goals first because they have a limited time. Thirdly, suggest a place that may not be a known tourist spot. While often times tourists spots are known for a legitimate reason, such as the Met in NYC or the Eiffel Tower in Paris, make sure to balance the known spots with local charm. Local spots that may be lesser known could include the farmer’s market, a small museum or gallery, a concert hall, a public park or the Turkish baths.

A good rule of thumb is to think of the places you still make the time to go to, even after years of living in a place. These are the places worth sharing and your guests will be sure to thank you for a nice home to stay in and for making them feel comfortable!

Let’s be honest, a majority of people have anxiety around one thing or the other whether it be spiders, fire or traveling there are ways to manage your anxiety! Especially with travel anxiety can be difficult because you have  to accept that you often have no control over the situation, ie. you are not a pilot so you can’t decide when take-off is happening(and if you are a pilot I hope you don’t have travel anxiety!).

Some of the most beautiful and special places there are to travel to include less than ideal transport such as small planes or boats. You are not alone in feeling nerves but don’t let these obstacles keep you from exploring the world! Here is a list of three easy steps for dealing with travel anxiety:

Aromatherapy

Take something small on the road with you that has essential oils or dried plants that provide soothing aromatherapy experiences. Smells that especially prompt relaxation and calm is lavender, bergamot, and chamomile.

Meditation

Take a few minutes before or during travel to meditate, center yourself, close your eyes and focus on your breathing. If you need some guidance in meditation Headspace is a free and excellent guided meditation app.

Distraction

Plan your distraction ahead of time, since it is usually harder to make decisions while feeling stressed or anxious. I recommend a playlist of music or a podcast that inspires you or a very good book. Anything that is able to keep your mind off of your journey.

All the best of luck to you on your travels!

If you are in Spain then visiting Catalonia is a must and visiting Dali’s home museum is an absolute necessity. The gorgeous location of Portlligat, is where Dali lived for the majority of his life. The home is in a charming location on a coastline with glorious weather most of the year.

The home is maintained to look like when Salvador Dali lived there so there is artwork all over the walls, momentos scattered around the house and enviable interior design. The house is an intimate look into Dali’s day-to-day life and was also transformed from a fisherman’s hut in 1930 based singularly on his sketches and designs. The public can view Dali’s home, jewel collection and there is a theatre-museum as well! The Salvador Dali Theatre Museum boasts one of the most extensive art collections of Dali’s work in the globe. This is not just a simple house tour and definitely worth spending at least a full day of your travels to explore the life and mind of the most important surrealist artist of all time.

If you do make it to NYC, Russ & Daughters is a must see and eat. The preliminary deli’s location is more of a deli that you take your food to go and eat at home. Since the first location, two other restaurants have opened up, both of which have seating available with the same menu and food options as the original deli.

One of the Russ & Daughters locations is on the bottom floor of the Jewish Museum in Manhattan. This is a perfect spot to dine for brunch and then explore the amazing exhibitions at the museum. There is no questioning that Starbucks is a successful international business but the company has misled the average U.S. coffee drinker.

The macchiato served at Starbucks, otherwise known as the caramel macchiato, is actually a latte and simply put not a traditional macchiato at all.

When in Europe, and honestly anywhere in the world, a macchiato is a single or double shot of espresso with a dash of creme on top to cut the acidity and bitterness of the espresso. This drink is most commonly served in a small cup, approximately 90 ml, and will not have syrup or caramel added. Some drinkers stir some raw sugar or honey into the drink but overall the drink is not meant to be sweet.

Next time you are walking the streets of Paris or Rome do not fret! Stroll into the closest cafe and now have confidence in your order. If you crave a healthier, less decadent drink than the Starbucks macchiato, ordering coffee or espresso is your best bet. A macchiato is a happy medium between straight espresso and a cappuccino. If you want the Starbucks drink, at an authentic cafe just remember to order a caramel latte instead.

Often times we want to cram as many activities as we possibly can when traveling. You may stay up much later, drink more, eat more, and generally be a little more decadent than usual. Besides hydrating and exercise, here are a few tricks to keep your energy levels high during your vacation:

Make sure to always have water and food on you. There is nothing worse than being in the middle of a wonderful performance and having to leave to get water. And for your travel companion, there is nothing worse than a hangry friend. This is especially true if you plan on hiking or doing a lot of physical activity while you are traveling.

Roll up plastic water bottles are especially nice for traveling because they are light and take up close to no room when empty. Additionally, if you are low on energy it is important to drink fluids with electrolytes. Most people are electrolyte deficient and this is especially true if you’ve gone drinking the night before. Replenishing your electrolytes will make you feel fresher and even boost your immune system. You can add some essential oils with rosemary, orange, and lemon that are said to be super energizing.

A full night of sleep is the best way to assure energy for the next day. Sometimes traveling, and moving from hotel to hotel can make it harder to fall asleep. If packing room allows, bring your pillow from home. This can help you sleep along with the use of travel earplugs and a sleeping mask. These small accessories can help a deeper and longer night of undisturbed sleep allowing for maximum energy on your travels.

From mid-March to mid-April every year DC’s parks and streets get decorated with pink as cherry blossom trees bloom throughout the city. Not only is there an explosion of color but a festival occurs throughout the blooming season.

Local businesses, museums, and parks host events, especially at the beginning of the cherry blossom season. There is a Cherry Blossom opening ceremony that happens annually to celebrate the tree and springtime. Many other events follow, such as a kite festival and a parade.

The Cherry Blossom Festival is a way for travelers and DC natives alike to celebrate the season and the city. The festival attracts visitors from all around the world and is also a time that local businesses thrive and give back to the community.

Many parks have events based on the beautiful tree, for example, Petalpalooza takes place on the Wharf which is the southwest waterfront in DC. Petalpalooza includes food, live music and games throughout the day with a spectacular firework show over the water at night. The Cherry Blossom Festival is a great time to visit DC and the events cater to all ages.  Quick tip: the flowers are especially beautiful to view while walking through the sculpture garden next to the National Gallery.
