Imagine sitting in a tranquil room, where every movement and every moment is steeped in tradition. That’s the heart of a Japanese tea ceremony—a ritual that offers an escape from daily life. If you’re traveling to Japan and curious to take part in this practice, here’s everything you need to know.

The Tea Room and its Equipment

Traditional tea ceremonies take place in a tea room or a tea house, which is usually a small, architecturally distinct space designed for such gatherings. The room is minimalist, fostering a zen-like atmosphere. Key equipment includes the Chawan (tea bowl), Chasen (tea whisk), Chashaku (tea scoop), and the Kama (kettle).

The Ceremonial Process

A full-length tea ceremony can last up to four hours and includes a meal (kaiseki) and two servings of tea. The first serving, known as koicha (thick tea), is rich and less sweet. The second serving, usucha (thin tea), is lighter and more bitter. Guests consume the tea in a specific manner that honors the effort of the host.

Participating in a Ceremony

If you’re visiting Japan and want to participate in a tea ceremony, there are many places in Kyoto and Tokyo where you can join. Many tea houses also offer short courses and demonstrations for tourists to get a taste of this profound tradition.

Whether you’re gearing up for a long-haul journey or a quick hop to the next city, packing your carry-on involves more than just tossing in a book and a snack. Making sure your electronic devices are fully charged is crucial to a smooth and enjoyable travel experience. Here’s a rundown of the essential gadgets you should charge before you head to the airport.

Smartphone

Your smartphone is your ultimate travel companion. From boarding passes to last-minute emails and capturing snapshots, a fully charged phone ensures you stay connected and organized.

Tablet or E-reader

Long flights are the perfect opportunity to catch up on reading or binge-watch a new series. Make sure your tablet or e-reader is fully charged for hours of entertainment.

Power Bank

Perhaps the most crucial item to charge is your power bank. This handy device can be a lifesaver when you find yourself in a seat with no power outlet or if your flight faces delays. You’ll be able to charge your phone or other devices no matter where you are.

Wireless Headphones

No one enjoys the airplane’s hum or the sound of a chatty seatmate when trying to relax. Charge your wireless headphones fully for a peaceful journey immersed in your favorite tunes or movies.

Ready to explore the enchanting Scottish Isles by road? Whether you’re navigating the rugged terrain of the Outer Hebrides or exploring the mystical beauty of the Isle of Skye, planning is key to making the most of your journey. Here’s a guide to help you organize an unforgettable road trip.

Choose Your Islands

Each island has something unique to offer. The Isle of Skye is a paradise for nature enthusiasts with must-see sights like the Quiraing landslip and the iconic Old Man of Storr.

Not far behind in historical richness is Orkney, where ancient marvels such as Skara Brae and the Ring of Brodgar coexist with a lively contemporary scene, complete with top-notch craft breweries and art galleries.

Meanwhile, the Isle of Mull offers a charming visual feast with its picturesque harbors and the vibrant, colorful waterfront houses of Tobermory.

Think about what you want to see is the first step to planning your trip.

Plan Your Route and Transportation

Ferries are the best way to travel between islands. Check your options in advance if you are planning to visit more than one island. Renting a car is also highly recommended as it gives you the flexibility to explore at your own pace.

Perfect for those who love to combine adventure with relaxation, a day at Lake Tahoe can be as active or as leisurely as you wish. Here’s your guide to enjoying a splendid day at one of the most beautiful lakes in America.

Morning: Hit the Water With Your Paddleboard

Start your day early by heading to one of Lake Tahoe’s many beaches suited for paddleboarding. Popular spots like Kings Beach or Sand Harbor offer calm waters and spectacular views of the surrounding mountains—perfect for beginners and seasoned paddlers alike.

Midday: A Scenic Picnic

After a few hours on the water, head back to shore for a relaxing picnic. Some great picnic areas include the grassy grounds of Commons Beach or the secluded picnic tables at D.L. Bliss State Park.

Afternoon: Explore More or Relax

Once you’ve refueled, you have a couple of options. You can get back on your paddleboard and explore different parts of the lake, or perhaps try other water activities like kayaking or swimming. If you prefer a more relaxed afternoon, take a leisurely stroll along the lakeshore.

Evening: Sunset

As the day winds down, prepare for one of Lake Tahoe’s stunning sunsets. The western shores of the lake, such as Emerald Bay, offer particularly breathtaking views as the sun dips behind the mountains.

Malta, a small island nation in the Mediterranean, is a treasure trove of history and culture. Exploring Malta’s heritage trails is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in its rich past. To help you plan your trip, here are some of the best heritage trails that will give you a taste of Malta’s diverse history.

Valletta Historical Walking Trail

Valletta is Malta’s capital and has many historical sites dating back to the 16th century. This walking trail takes you through narrow streets lined with baroque landmarks, including St. John’s Co-Cathedral, the Grandmaster’s Palace, and the Upper Barrakka Gardens, offering stunning views of the Grand Harbor.

@whereisangiee One day in Valletta, Malta? ✨ SAVE this one day itinerary/guide for later ?? ? Start your day at the Lower Barrakka Gardens and admire both the Siege Bell War Monument as well as the beautiful view of the three cities of Vittoriosa, Senglea, and Cospicua. Pro tip: I highly recommend taking a water taxi or dgħajsa to the other side and visiting the three cities on a day trip. You can catch the water taxi by taking the Barrakka Lift from the Upper Barrakka Gardens and walking to the harbor from there. A round trip costs 2.80€ ? Next, head to the Upper Barrakka Gardens. Aside from enjoying the gardens themselves, don’t miss the Saluting Battery. The cannons fire every day at noon. ☀ After, make sure to spend some time getting lost in Valletta’s Old town. For some of the best views and most picturesque spots check out: Republic Street, Merchant’s Street, St Lucia Street, Triq San Gwann, and Old Mint Street. Also don’t miss the phone booths that can still be found scattered around the town! ⛪ In the afternoon, head over to St John’s Co-Cathedral and one of the most impressive examples of Baroque art in Europe. The interior will blow you away! Tickets cost 15€ for adults and 12€ for students. Make sure to book online in advance and don’t forget to dress accordingly (don’t bring high heels either). ✨ Visit the Casa Rocca Piccola to explore a traditional Maltese aristocratic family’s house. At the end of the tour you can also see some air raid shelters left over from World War II. Admission costs 9,50€ and 6€ for students. Last admission is at 4pm and only guided tours are possible. ? Watch sunset from the parking lot by Spencer’s tomb for one of the most beautiful view points in Valletta. Enjoy and follow @whereisangiee for more ✨ #malta #maltatiktok #visitmalta #maltatravel #valletta #travel ♬ Walking Around – Instrumental Version – Eldar Kedem

Mdina and Rabat Medieval Walk

Mdina, the “Silent City,” is a medieval walled town situated on a hill in central Malta. This trail explores the atmospheric streets of Mdina. You’ll walk past the impressive Mdina Cathedral, the Natural History Museum, and the bastions with panoramic views. Continuing to the neighboring town of Rabat, you’ll discover more historical sites such as St. Paul’s Catacombs and the Domvs Romana, a well-preserved Roman villa.

@all_about_rosalilla The medieval cityscape of the “Silent City” ? Mdina, Malta Mdina is the city that we liked most during our time exploring Malta. One of the ancient cities, it is probably less chaotic than Valletta. This “Silent City” name was originally coined when the capital was moved out of Mdina and into what is modern day Vittoriosa. This left Mdina so uninhabited that people started to consider it to be like a ghost town, and the silent city nickname was born. With its narrow winding streets, ornate churches, grand palaces, and majestic fortified walls, Mdina offers an enchanting glimpse into Malta’s past. It truly does feel like stepping back in time. Is Mdina on your travel bucket list? #mdinamalta #visitmalta #lovemalta #silentcity #mdinathesilentcity #maltalovers #maltatravel #irishtravelblogger #travelugc #irishtravelcreator #travelcontentcreator #maltatiktok #maltaisland #travelingtheworld #travelinspo #travelinspiration #summerdestinations #europedestinations #wheretogoineurope #howtoplanaeuropetrip #europetravelguide ♬ original sound – Nicola & Ronan Lavin

Prehistoric Temples Trail

Malta is home to some of the oldest free-standing structures in the world. This trail covers several prehistoric temple sites, including Ħaġar Qim, Mnajdra, and Tarxien. These temples are architectural marvels of the Neolithic period. Visiting them will give you a unique perspective on the island’s ancient history.

Imagine a day filled with gentle waves, mountain air, and panoramic beauty—welcome to Lake Tahoe!
