]]>The lush green mountains, rushing rivers, and majestic waterfalls make for an idyllic travel destination that only gets better during the summer.
One of our favorite activities to do whenever we visit the Smoky Mountains as a sports and adventure lover is whitewater rafting.
So, what is this activity? Whitewater rafting consists of an inflatable raft which is filled with a group of people, including a guide, which goes down a challenging stretch of river which can be filled with rocks, rapids, and unexpected drops!
A heart-racing adventure, the type of river needed for this type of activity exists throughout the Smoky Mountains region. From the Pigeon River in Tennessee to the French Broad River in North Carolina, you will find plenty of outfitters which offer up trips led by professional guides and with all the material you’ll need included.
If you want to get your pulse racing with a group of friends or family on your next trip to the Smokies in the beauty of this area’s nature, you can’t go wrong with a whitewater rafting trip. Give it a try!

]]>Not only do the falls thunder down at volumes and speeds second to none, but this also creates incredible whitewater rafting below the falls. Known as the best whitewater rafting in the world, this activity is not for the faint of heart. With tons of class V rapids, you are guaranteed a wild and bumpy ride down the Zambezi!
What better way is there to experience one of the seven wonders of the world than jumping 364 feet off a bridge with a view of the falls and mist as you hang upside down? While this is also not for the faint of heart, it is a great adrenaline rush and one of the coolest ways to experience the power of the Zambezi River. The best part is that you come out on the Zimbabwe side so you can say you bungee jumped into another country!
Ever dreamed of walking with the kings of the jungle? You can do that as well in Livingstone. You can take a short walk with different sized lions and interact with them up close. While this may sound scary, there are 3 professional lion trainers with you and they will tell you exactly what to do and how to interact. Seeing these beasts from afar is incredible but standing next to one is even cooler!
In addition, there are museums, restaurants, and other activities such as fishing, boating, and hiking. There are also cheaper accommodation options such as hostels and campsites so no matter what your budget is, there are plenty of activities in this great city close to Victoria Falls.

]]>Located near the incredible New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia, the Upper Gauley is world-famous whitewater rafting. “The Beast in the East” as it is called by whitewater enthusiasts, is not something that should be missed.
With famous rapids such as Pillow Rock, Lost Paddle, and Iron Ring, the names speak for themselves as to how crazy the water can get. The peak of the trip is Sweet’s Falls, a 14-foot waterfall and the last of the five class V rapids on the river.
Because the water is let out of the dam after the summer is over, Upper Gauley season is only 6 weekends in September and into October. Although the temperatures are already getting colder then, it is worth it to brave the cold water for one of the 5 best whitewater rafting trips in the world!
