]]>Both the Staten Island and IKEA ferries provide a free and scenic way to get a close-up view of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the Manhattan skyline. Check the schedule beforehand, but both run regularly and dock from Lower Manhattan, near Wall Street.
DUMBO is a trendy neighborhood in Brooklyn known for its cobblestone streets and stunning views of Manhattan. Head to the area under the Manhattan Bridge for some of the most iconic photo spots, with the bridge framing the cityscape perfectly.
For a less touristy experience, consider visiting The Met Cloisters. The Cloisters are a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art which showcases the art, architecture, and gardens of medieval Europe. From Fort Tryon Park you’ll have a beautiful view of the Hudson River and the George Washington Bridge.

]]>The first thing that hits you is all of the crazy taxidermies you’ll find on the walls, behind the bar, and beyond. Then, as you make your way to the dancefloor, you’ll notice that all the music that is playing is different than what you normally hear on the radio or at a club.
Instead of top 40 hits, Home Sweet Home plays exclusively old rock music from the ’50s and ’60s, which makes for a completely different vibe. People on the dance floor are dancing in a way you probably won’t see in other places. Instead of normal dance moves, people pull out old school dance moves like the twist, the jive, the jitterbug, and more! You can obviously enjoy the club the way that you like best, but it is fun to get into a new swing of things.

]]>Union Square is located near many of the NYU campuses in the downtown part of New York. The square itself is very lush and green but has a lot of space for people to organize protests, which happens often, and for there to be many kinds of markets! In the wintertime, there is the Holiday Market, where there are tons of artisans selling gorgeous items, and yummy food stalls. And, all year long, you can visit the farmers’ market called the Greenmarket which takes place Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 8:00 am-6:00 pm!
Besides the actual square, there a lot of things happening around it on the side streets. The famous Strand Bookstore is right off the square, as well as the well known Union Square Cafe! So if you want an authentic New York experience, you have to check out Union Square.

]]>Columbia University is where Abe, Midge’s dad works and is very close to where their apartment is on West 113th and Riverside. Columbia is a beautiful university and you should definitely explore the area and campus with its gorgeous grounds and buildings.
So much happens in the record store Midge and Susie go to in season 1, and it’s eventually where Joel figures out Midge is now a comedienne. The name of the store is the Music Inn, and it’s a real music shop that you can visit and buy unique records at!
If you remember the third episode of the first season, Midge gets up on stage to introduce a jazz band after Lenny Bruce had just done a set. She, Lenny, and the band had smoked a little in the alley behind the joint, and Midge replaces Lenny who isn’t able to continue with the introduction. This spot is called the Village Vanguard and it’s an amazing jazz club that still has amazing shows! It’s been around since the 1930s and is such a cool experience to have.
