Known as one of the music capitals of the United States, especially when it comes to the country genre, Nashville, Tennessee has plenty to offer tourists both including and beyond country music. Here are three things you won’t want to miss when you visit.

Honky Tonk Highway

You can’t go to Nashville and not stop by one of the bars known for playing country music. And there’s no better place for them than the famed Honky Tonk Highway, a strip of bars that are open from 10 am to 3 am and don’t charge covers. Plus, most of them are family-friendly in the daytime hours.

The Bluebird Cafe

Nashville is known as the place to go for musicians trying to make a name for themselves in the music industry, and the Bluebird Cafe is famous for being a place for up-and-comers to showcase their music. It’s truly iconic, with stars like Garth Brooks, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, and Faith Hill all having played there.

The Parthenon

If you need a break from all the country, you can visit the world’s only full-scale replica of the ancient Greek temple in Athens, the Parthenon. The one in Nashville functions as a museum, hosting a collection of Impressionist paintings dating from 1765 to 1923.

Nashville is one of the most popular cities in America, especially for music lovers. Also known as “Music City”, it has country-like energy that’s iconic for Tennessee, and perfect for anyone looking for a rustic side to their trip. Are you heading down there and not sure what to do? Here are some of the best activities you can do there.

Live Music Downtown

Downtown Nashville has the most incredible energy when it comes to music. Simply walk down the strip, and you’ll find countless honky-tonk bars with live bands performing on stage. No joke, you can probably see 10 to 12 bands performing on the same night free of charge.

Horseback Riding

During the daytime, there are countless places to go horseback riding. True to the country vibe, there are many ranchers who offer these services, and you’ll have the time of your life. Even if you’ve never ridden a horse before, they’ll guide you through the process.

Johnny Cash Museum

Nashville holds plenty of tributes to iconic country rockstars, and Johnny Cash is one of them. There’s a Johnny Cash Museum downtown that’ll take you back to his early days, tell you the story of his life, and fascinate you with iconic artifacts from throughout his career.

Nashville is one of the most well known southern cities in the US, and is the favorite of people who want to get away for a weekend and have a totally unique experience. Nashville is famous for being an institution of country music, but there is so much more than just that. Nashville has an awesome cultural scene, and if you want to feel refreshed and inspired, it’s a great city to visit.

What to Do

You can’t go to Nashville without paying homage to country music in some way, and the best thing to do is to go to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. This attraction is very popular and actually really fascinating, so you can’t miss out on it.

If you want to stay outside and see some living history about country music, you have to go down Music Row. This area is famous for being the home to many studios that produced legendary stars like Dolly Parton, Elvis Pressley, Taylor Swift, Johnny Cash and more.

Nashville has a very interesting park called Centennial Park, and there are plenty of great activities to do there like hiking and walking trails, different gardens, and more. But, the real reason to come to Centennial Park is to check out the Parthenon. The Parthenon in Nashville is an exact replica of the one in Greece, and it is quite stunning.

If you want to do a fun group activity, you should definitely check out Paddle Up Nashville to do all sorts of paddleboarding on the Cumberland River! If you’re with family or a group of friends this is such a fun and unique activity you can do right in the center of Nashville.

If you’re looking to do some shopping and check out cool art deco architecture, you have to go to the Gulch neighborhood of Nashville. There you’ll find the Frist Art Museum which has so many cool rotating exhibits, along with high-end restaurants, boutiques, and more.

Dining and Nightlife

For the cooler, more eclectic side of Nashville, you have to go to the East Nashville neighborhood. The Five Points area is where a lot of nightlife goes down, but you can also go there to see the amazing street art.

The Grand Ole Opry is a legendary venue in Nashville that’s had a weekly country show going on for almost 100 years. Whether you like country music or not, you have to try to get to this place, you really won’t regret it.

Nashville is famous for a specific type of southern food called hot chicken, which is a type of fried chicken with a spicier twist. Bolton’s Spicy Chicken and Fish is probably the best hot chicken you can find in all of Nashville, and if you don’t eat there, you’ll be sorry you missed it. If you can’t make it Bolton’s for the hot chicken, you should definitely go to Hattie B’s for a good runner up.
