While professional photographers may take the best pictures, it’s not so practical to have a pro on hand as you enjoy your vacation, especially if you’re moving around a lot. Here are some tips to help you take the best possible photos on your regular iPhone.

Shoot in RAW

Unlike other file formats, RAW files allow your camera to use as much data as possible. This will enable you to edit, crop, and zoom in on your photos while maintaining maximum picture quality.

Lighting is Key

According to professional photographer Tiffany Nguyen, lighting makes all the difference when it comes to photo quality. She explained that the best times of day to take photographs are sunset and sunrise.

Learn to Edit

By knowing how to edit your photos on the go, you can perfect and upload them all while you’re still on vacation. Consider learning to use a smartphone photo editing app like Lightroom Mobile and Touch Retouch so that you can perfect your photos on the move.

While it’s possible to discover the odd brightly painted house or graffiti-covered wall in almost any location, some cities around the world take the use of color much more seriously. Vibrant homes and buildings are woven into the local identity, telling stories and creating a fantastic backdrop for photography. If you’re a traveler with a penchant for unique destinations, visiting a colorful city is sure to captivate your senses and leave you with lasting memories. Here are a few that especially stand out.

Havana, Cuba

The pastel-hued buildings in Havana’s historic district are a photographer’s dream come true. Colors range from shades of yellow, orange, turquoise, and pink, creating opportunities for Instagram-worthy shots at every turn. Take a stroll along the Malecon, Havana’s iconic seafront boulevard, or check out local festivals such as the Havana Carnaval.

Burano, Italy

This tiny island in the Venetian Lagoon is famous for the colorful houses that line its canals. The houses are painted in a rainbow of colors, which, legend has it, started as a tradition for fishermen to easily find their way home on foggy days.

Bo-Kaap, Cape Town, South Africa

Bo-Kaap is a neighborhood located in the heart of Cape Town known for its brightly colored houses, a practice that began as an expression of freedom when the Malay people were freed from slavery. Colors include neon orange, red, pink, and more, and create a striking contrast against the backdrop of Table Mountain.

One of the best ways to document and share your trips is by uploading photographs to your Instagram account. This popular social network is a great place to share what you have documented for friends, family, and others to see.

Would you like to get a head start on ensuring that your travel pictures have reach and impact? Here are some tips that can help.

Learn to Use Effects

Instagram also serves as a photo editor, providing a number of effects and editing capabilities to make your pictures look even better. Learn to adjust the brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, just to name a few things, in order to make your pictures pop.

Geotag Your Snapshots

One of the best ways to ensure that others see and like your photos is by geotagging your snapshots. Don’t just upload a picture of the Taj Mahal, for example; upload it and geotag it at the Taj Mahal so that people browsing photos of the monument will see your picture.

Master Hashtags

Another great way to ensure that your pictures have reach is by employing hashtags. Look for hashtags related to the location in which you have taken your photo so that people, while checking out these popular hashtags, will discover your photo and profile.

When you go on holiday and visit a place you’ve never been to before, you usually get to see many amazing things, but when it comes to taking photos, you may end up disappointed because nothing looks as good as in person. But don’t worry as we have three tips that will make your holiday photos look much better.

Catch Local Elements

If you take a photo that doesn’t capture a distinctive local element, it may not look as exciting as you thought it would. Include in your photos the things that make the destination unique. A common photo of a busy street in London will look much more London-like if you catch a Double Decker bus coming towards you.

Oxford Street, London, UK. Photo by Jay Wennington on Unsplash

Capture Details

Depending on the location, you may be able to find stunning details that deserve a place in your camera roll. This is true for Moroccan and Portuguese tiles, Florence statues, Istanbul markets, etc.

Photo by KOBU Agency on Unsplash

Night Photography

Don just take photos during the day. Figure out the night photography settings on your phone or camera and capture the destination once it’s dark and it looks completely different. You’ll have to be careful not to get blurry or shaky photos, but once you know how to do it, you’ll have amazing photos and memories.

With an average of almost 10 million visitors a year, Rome is always overcrowded with tourists. That’s why it can be extremely difficult to take good photos in the Italian capital, especially at some of the city’s most Instagram-worthy spots.

Colosseum

The Colosseum is a symbol of Rome, and every visitor wants to take a photo with this top attraction. Luckily, there are many amazing photo-taking spots around this magnificent limestone structure, so take your time before you find the one you like.

Trevi Fountain

Taking a good photo in the Colosseum is a piece of cake when compared with the Trevi Fountain. Our best advice is to visit it early in the morning and experiment with frames to get the rest of the tourists out of the picture.

St. Peter’s Square

The large plaza located directly in front of St. Peter’s Basilica is never empty since thousands of people visit it every day to get a glimpse of Vatican City. You’ll either have to be extremely patient to get a good photo or settle for a portrait or a selfie.

While some people like big and expensive souvenirs, others return home only with a bunch of beautiful photographs. Do you want to improve your travel photography skills? Here are some great, but super easy traveling photography tips everyone should follow.

It is very important to do your pre-traveling research. There are quite a few ways to find the best spots for picture making. First, google it. The Internet is a great place for seeking advice. Second, talk to friends who have been there. And lastly, receive advice from the locals. They can reveal all the mysterious, yet beautiful places worth visiting and photographing.

Good Lighting is Key

Wake up early, and go back to bed late if you want to catch the perfect lighting. Catching the “golden hours” aka an hour before sunrise and an hour after sunset will reward you with romantic photographs.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BnQ7G3tjdRw/?tagged=goldenhour

The Dress Code

Every good photographer should have a pair of good travel clothes. You never know where your path could lead you. Why wasting it because of unappropriated gear.

Be Nice to Locals

If you are into portrait photography, you should know that kindness is everything. Being rude and taking photos of the locals without permission can get you into trouble. Learn how to say “can I take a photo of you” in the local language.

Being a pilot is an amazing career for people who love to travel for a living. It’s not easy to become one, but when you do, you get the opportunity to see places you probably never would otherwise.

Pilot Tom Franklin de Waart decided to share what he sees with the rest of the world through travel photography that you can see on his social media.

“My name is Tom Franklin de Waart. I am a semi-professional travel and landscape photographer and a pilot based out of Hong Kong. I try to fly around the world not only for work but also on my time off. This allows me to capture the finest landscapes and those valuable travel moments. Capturing a place and showing its vastness is my goal and therefore sometimes I need multiple tries before getting the required result,” he said in an interview for Travel and Destinations.

Mysterious forest. NOTE❗: this is a panorama Zhangjiajie National Forest is one of the most unreal places I have traveled to. I enjoyed 4 days in the park and was exhausted when I came back home, this is because I refused to use the cable car lift carrying thousands of tourists up and forts, therefore I hiked a lot. Another reason why I did this is because I didn’t want to miss any opportunity for a great landscape photo, since China isn’t allowing lots of location apps I couldn’t fully prepare my trip and locations. Also having some time to yourself in nature is always nice. Another very important aspect of hiking in this photo is that the last cable car going down is prior to sunset. This gave me the full viewing platform all by myself with one other photographer, this did mean that I had to hike down about 1,5/2 hours in the dark on slippery slopes, being eaten alive by musquitos. This shot is taken just before sunset. The whole day it was horribly cloudy and it didnt looked like the sun was going to reveal itself, however miracously it did and the clouds suddenly faded. Perfect! This gave me the beautiful moody vibe I wanted to see in this mysterious landscape! #passionpassport #voyaged #travelanddestinations #artofvisuals #chinadestinations #earthpix #beautyofnature #tourtheplanet #theimaged #globalcapture #nakedplanet #awesomeglobe #beautifuldestinations #natgeoyourshot #visualsofearth #wonderful_places #mynikonlife #tlpicks #nikonasia #earthfocus #discoverearth #natureperfection #natgeotravel #traveltheworld #lonelyplanet #stayandwander #zoomnl_landschap #china #avatarmountians #nikonnl

Colosseum

Make sure to follow him on Instagram if you want to see more!
