So when it comes to her Instagram page, you know you’re in for a treat. “I wasn’t a super-early adopter [of Instagram],” she admitted once in an interview with Lonny. “When I finally did, it was because it seemed like hearing about it from friends had reached a fever pitch. I thought the real-time peek into someone’s life—and the cool places they were going—sounded intriguing.”
Jump forward some years later, and with tens of thousands of followers, Lack clearly knows how to to travel with style. Her Instagram page includes photos from anywhere and everywhere around the world, but in the end she always comes back to California. “When I’m traveling, I go nuts trying to capture it all from sweeping scenic shots to quiet moments in markets to the comings and goings of locals,” she admits.
“I love an adventure,” she adds, “I get bored when standing still. I also love how [traveling] smashes the pre-conceived notions you have about the world, even when you don’t realize you have them! Keep your mind open and greet people in their native language. You’ll discover a whole new side of your destination this way and have far more memorable experiences.
Travel insurance. Vaccines. Visas. Say it over and over again until it sticks. You cannot travel without these three things. Find out what vaccinations you need based on where you are going and if you need a visa, apply in advance. You can’t have life-changing memories if you get turned down at the border.
Having an itinerary is great but if you want to embrace spontaneity, you need to be flexible. Allow yourself the freedom to change plans last minute, jump on a tour bus with some friends you met at your hostel and seize the day.
