Italy is a great destination for art lovers, with Rome and Florence being popular destinations for seeing classical art, and Venice is a world-center for contemporary art, particularly during the time of the Venice Biennale. Milan is primarily known as a fashion capital but there are a lot of spots to visit if you’re interested in seeing contemporary art.

Fondazione Prada

A large venue opened by the fashion brand founder’s granddaughter in 1993 in a repurposed gin distillery. The entrance sets the tone with a gold-leaf covered wall and the spaces of the former distillery are now filled with some of the world’s most highly regarded artworks.

Gluck50

An independent art organization that has a gallery where artists who use the space show their work. Gluck50 has a great international program that definitely worth checking out when visiting the city.

Almach

Appropriately for the Italian capital of design, Almach was opened by an architect and an engineer with a flair for art. The gallery is curated by Luca Temolo Dall’Igna, the architect, and also has professional curators for the video art program.

Chiesa Santa Maria delle Grazie

If you’re interested in something more traditional and popular, you might want to go look for Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’, perhaps the most famous image in the Western canon, and a UNESCO World Heritage.
