]]>Hobbiton is the most popular tourist spot in its home country, and you’re certainly not the only Tolkien fan eager to see it. Since you can only visit this place as a part of a tour, there’s always going to be people around you, especially since it’s recommended to stick to your group.
Don’t show up at Hobbiton thinking you’ll buy a ticket on the spot. It’s important to act fast and book them in advance unless you want to risk not seeing the movie set at all – especially if you’re thinking of going for the Evening Banquet Tour, that takes place only twice a week.
If you’re hoping something amazing is waiting for you inside hobbit holes, you’ll be disappointed to find out they’re just for show. Fortunately, you can always have a pint at The Green Dragon Inn or pay a visit to The Shire’s Rest café.

]]>In the heart of New Zealand, just about a 2-hour drive from Auckland, there is a small agricultural town in the Waikato region called Matamata. It is the home to The Hobbiton Movie Set.
20 years ago, there was a big, not-so-easy search for the perfect rolling hills and lush green pastures of Hobbiton. The desired scenery was found at the Alexander sheep farm. Soon after, the 39 temporary Hobbit Holes were born with the help of the New Zealand army.
Today, it is a sanctuary for all The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit fans. For a memorable experience, you’ll be guided by a high professional tour guide.
One of the most popular tours is through The Shire at dusk, where at the remaining daylight your tour guide will escort you through the 12-acre site, telling interesting and fascinating anecdotes about the two trilogies.
Later in the evening, while the trails will be illuminated by path lighting, the guests will be provided with handheld lanterns. The breathtaking walk ends at The Green Dragon Inn, where the guests will receive a complimentary beverage from the Hobbit Southfarthing range. Also, the visitors will be treated to a banquet feast fit for a Hobbit.
