Zagreb, Croatia has long been home to some of Europe’s quirkiest museums, but it now has another major Balkan capital to rival it. Unusual museums are popping all over Belgrade, and here are a few quirky spots you should check out in the Serbian capital.

Selfie Museum

If you’re in the mood for an amazing photo-op, this is the place to be. Filled with several colorful themed rooms, the Selfie Museum in Belgrade offers a unique immersive experience and it’s up to you to make the best of it.

Museum of Illusions

Speaking of amazing photo-ops, the Museum of Illusions is one of the leaders in this area, and if you think it looks familiar—chances are you’ve seen it somewhere else before. The museum in Belgrade is only one of many under this moniker, as the Museum of Illusions has branches everywhere from Madrid to Cairo.

Museum of Chocolate

Located in the very heart of Kalemegdan Park, the Museum of Chocolate is one of the latest additions to Belgrade’s quirky museum scene. It features several themed rooms exploring the history of chocolate and a unique display of chocolate-made items.

Interactive museums are flourishing around the world, and it doesn’t come as a surprise that you can find many in the US. The Color Factory is the most vibrant of them all, and you can currently find it in two different locations – Houston and New York City.

Surprisingly enough, this isn’t where this interactive museum actually originates from; its first exhibition actually took place in San Francisco. The project created so much buzz that it ran for eight sold-out months before finding a new home in NYC in 2018.

Described as “a celebration of color and creativity”, the Color Factory now spans 20,000 square feet, with a series of new installations inspired by New York City. Like similar museums of its kind, this one is the perfect place to take vibrant photos in picture-perfect set-ups.

The Color Factory franchise is currently expending, and it opened another location in Houston last year. Their main goal is to connect visitors to the colorful moments around the city where the exhibition is set, and we’re looking forward to seeing them open more locations in the future.

Interactive museums are booming around the world, and Australia has several pretty impressive ones in store. Sugar Republic is the sweetest and most vibrant of them all, and it’s the perfect place to visit if you want to go back home with a bunch of colorful photos.

This museum opened its doors at Melbourne’s historic MacRobertson’s chocolate factory in 2018, before going on tour around the east coast of Australia. They pride themselves in providing all visitors with the sweetest possible experience in the land down under.

“We believe that the fun shouldn’t stop when you’re a grown-up, so we created a wonderland of nostalgic spaces where you can re-live your childhood and immerse yourself in joy,” reads Sugar Republic’s official website.

Despite the fact it’s not defined at such, Sugar Republic is essentially a selfie museum and it features ten interactive and Instagram-friendly set-ups where you can take amazing photos. Most of them are candy-inspired and feature giant replicas of gum bubbles, cakes, marshmallows, and other sweet treats.

Selfie museums are a huge hit right now, and they can be found everywhere from Hollywood to Budapest – but are they actually worth all the hype? You won’t know until you actually visit one, but we’re here to help you determine if they’re truly worthy of your time.

Photo Op

Selfie museums are, first and foremost, a photo opportunity. If you enjoy taking photos, acting silly and being surrounded by colorful objects, they are a perfect fit for you, but it’s highly unlikely you’ll enjoy them if that’s not the case.

Good Company

These museums are also an immersive experience, and it’s a bit difficult to enjoy them when you’re all alone. If you’re traveling with friends and family, feel free to give them a shot, since you’ll have more fun when you’re all taking hilarious photos together.

Personal Preferences

Selfie museums sometimes come with a pretty ridiculous price tag, and they’re not necessarily worth the trouble. If you prefer exploring the history of the place you’re visiting, and trying local food, save the money you’d spend to take selfies on a nice meal or a classic museum instead.
