]]>Are you a metro lover that’s looking to plan a trip to the United States? These three cities have huge and fascinating metro systems that you will love exploring.
The New York City Subway is one of the largest systems in the world and the biggest in the United States and is famed for its gritty, yet lovable, character. Street musicians and buskers entertain riders in eclectically-decorated stations that cover all five boroughs of the heart of American city life.
The United States’ capital, despite not being one of the nation’s largest cities, has an enviable Metro system with an iconic and recognizable station design that jumps out due to its vaulted ceilings. Not only does this Metro cover DC, but it also covers suburban areas in Maryland and Virginia.
Another metro station that gives you the option of staying in more affordable accommodation in the suburban areas outside of the city center is BART, which covers the San Francisco Metro Area. Its combined system of under and over-ground rail connects nearly all the Bay Area’s population to San Fran.

]]>If you’re in the Us, there’s really no better public transportation system than the MTA. Not only can you get around all the boroughs pretty easily, but there’s also only one flat fare that applies to both buses and trains. Though the trains and train stations themselves are definitely not super beautiful and clean, they are reliable and reasonably priced.
What is pretty phenomenal about the Madrid transit system is that wherever you are in Madrid, you’re never more than a 10-minute walk from a subway station. And Madrid is a big city, so it makes a big difference. Not only are they frequent, but the metro is also super cheap, coming out at just about 1 euro a trip, which is pretty incredible.
Though this country is usually pretty expensive, they’ve managed to keep the cost of transit actually very low. Not only this, but the trains are clean, fast, and easy to use. Tickets aren’t complicated and in general, the transit system utilizes a lot of technology to make commuters time easier.

]]>While commuters in cities like New York City and Geneva might use this method of transportation to go to work or to go home at the end of a long day, they are great for doing tourism as well. Seeing a city from the perspective of a boat gives you a whole new window into its appearance and character.
Cruising on the water in a ferry is a fantastic option, especially if the weather is sunny. Most boats offer outdoor seating that will let you catch rays while traveling along.
Another huge advantage of testing out a city’s ferry is that it’s usually going to be very affordable. Since these boats are also used for daily commutes by residents, they are never “tourist priced.”
Sustainable urbanism and tourism go hand and hand when you go on a ferry ride. Don’t be afraid to use your sea legs to check out your destination from a unique perspective!
