With its many local breweries, urban lakes and lively music scene, Minneapolis has so much to offer that trying to narrow down your itinerary may be difficult. Here are a few spots in the Midwestern city that you should not miss.

Walker Art Center

In this rich contemporary art museum, you’ll find a variety of modern artworks, both by young emerging artists and established, famous ones like Andy Warhol and Edward Hopper. Admission is free on Tuesdays but you will still need a timed ticket.

Chain of Lakes Regional Park

The chain of lakes found right in the city’s center, is one of the things that make Minneapolis unique. You can lounge on the beach, canoe, and paddleboard in the summer, or ice skate in the winter, without ever leaving the city limits.

MinneMile

If you’re looking for a shopping experience that is a little different, look no further than MinneMile on Minnehaha Avenue. This little shopping center is filled with locally-owned shops selling vintage, sustainable and recycled products.

First Avenue

This iconic music venue was made famous by Prince and continues to host over 1,000 shows annually.

Twin Spirits Distillery

The craft cocktails served in Twin Spirits Distillery are an absolute must, and the beautiful 1920s renovated property sure is a plus too.

Saint Paul, Minnesota is one of the two twin cities, along with Minneapolis. Saint Paul has had a huge growth spurt in the last few years and is quickly becoming a really popular place for tourists and new residents. So, if you ever find yourself there, you have to check out these incredible joints.

Salty Tart

This cafe not only has amazing brunch and coffee but is run by Michelle Gayer, who has been nominated 10 times for a James Beard Award in many categories, including Outstanding Baker. As you can imagine, Salty Tart has some insane pastries and baked goods, from croissants and cupcakes to pies, meringues and everything in between.

Blue Door Pub

The Blue Door Pub serves up classic Minnesota, and really all-American, favorites like burgers, but with a twist. Their most famous burger is called the Blucy, as features incredible blue cheese, garlic, and more. This is a local favorite and you really can’t go wrong with anything you find on the menu, so dig in!

Saint Dinette

This contemporary restaurant is not completely modern and upscale, but rather upgrades the classics you grew up with as a child. One of their most popular dishes is the bologna sandwich, which even includes American cheese but is one that’s actually made in-house!
