People think they know everything about Los Angeles until they actually go there. While Hollywood and Venice Beach get a lot of attention, there are many other hidden gems in this city. It’s precisely those underrated hotspots that we’re going to uncover in this article, so let’s get started.

Culver City

Culver City is a paradise for art lovers. It’s a neighborhood filled with colorful murals and galleries showcasing the work of talented artists. Strolling through the Arts District is like taking a journey into the world of imagination and creativity.

Griffith Park Trails

Griffith Park is well-known for its iconic observatory and hiking trails, but there are some lesser-known trails that offer equally stunning views of the city, like the Amir’s Garden trail. These hidden paths are quieter and less crowded, making them perfect for a peaceful hike surrounded by nature.

Watts Towers

Located in the Watts neighborhood, these towering sculptures are a true marvel. Built by an Italian immigrant named Simon Rodia over 33 years ago, the Watts Towers are a testament to human creativity and determination. It’s a remarkable piece of art that often gets overlooked, which is why you should definitely check it out if you’re ever in the area.

Los Angeles is home to countless picture-perfect touristy spots, but none of them compares to Griffith Observatory. This hilltop attraction is worth the visit for more reasons than one and here’s why you shouldn’t miss it for the world while in LA.

Amazing Views

The main reason why people visit Griffith Observatory are the breathtaking scenic views it has in store. The observatory is best known for a close view of the Hollywood Sign you can get here, but you can also see everything from Downtown Los Angeles to the southeast to the Pacific Ocean to the southwest while here.

Exhibits and Telescopes

Most people come to this spot to get amazing shots of LA, but Griffith Observatory is, first and foremost, and perfect spot for science lovers. It offers a wide range of space and science-related displays, a planetarium, and public telescopes you can use for free if you’re patient enough to wait for your turn.

Griffith Park

The Griffith Observatory is located on the grounds of Griffith Park, which offers several more attractions, including the Los Angeles Zoo and the Autry Museum of the American West. Nature lovers should also check it out for many scenic hiking trails that you can explore during your visit.

Los Angeles is home to many architectural gems, and you can find everything from tall skyscrapers to classic buildings and micro-homes in this city. If you’re a fan of contemporary architecture, the City of Angels won’t leave you disappointed and some of its modern buildings are truly iconic.

Walt Disney Concert Hall

Designed by the acclaimed architect Frank Gehry, this concert hall is instantly recognizable thanks to its curving stainless steel exterior, reminiscent of silver sails. Walt Disney Concert Hall is equally impressive on the inside, and it’s best known for its pristine acoustics.

The Broad

Located just across the street from Walt Disney Concert Hall, this contemporary art museum is a work of art in itself. Its white honeycomb-like facade, made with fiberglass reinforced concrete and 2,500 rhomboidal panels, was intended to contrast the metallic exterior of the concert hall.

The Getty

This free art museum offers landscaped gardens and beautiful views of LA to its visitors, but its architecture is equally impressive. Designed by Richard Meier, who wanted to highlight both nature and culture with its design, the Getty was mostly built using Italian travertine, concrete, and steel.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is the world’s most famous sidewalk and one of L.A.’s top tourist attractions. Seeing it in person can be pretty overwhelming, but here are a couple of steps you should take to make your visit less disappointing.

Take Your Time

The Hollywood Walk of Fame features over 2,500 stars and looking for the one that’s dedicated to your favorite actor may take time. It’s possible to do the research beforehand, but it’s much more enjoyable to look for the star yourself and be overwhelmed by joy once you’ve found it.

Perfect Picture

This famous sidewalk is one of those attractions that most people visit to take great photos so don’t leave without one. You can even take photos with local performers dressed as beloved fictional characters, just make sure you’re ready to tip them generously.

Right Time

Hollywood Boulevard will be pretty crowded, no matter when you visit it, but you should still do it during the daytime. Early morning is the best possible option, but any time during the day works since it’s more difficult to look for the stars and take good photos once it’s dark outside.

If you’re a book lover visiting Los Angeles, you’ll never run out of amazing places to explore. This city is home to many amazing bookstores and libraries, and here are three spots every bibliophile has the visit while in California’s largest city.

The Last Bookstore

If you can visit a single bookstore while in Los Angeles, this is the perfect pick. The Last Bookstore opened its doors in 2005, and it went on to become one of the city’s most Instagram-friendly attractions thanks to its creative book displays.

Book Soup

If you’re looking for a bookstore that’s a little bit less crowded, but offers an equally great selection as the Last Bookstore, Book Soup is the place to be. It’s one of the most popular cultural institutions on the Sunset Strip, best known for hosting frequent events with famous authors.

Los Angeles Central Library

You don’t have to be a book lover to appreciate the beauty of the city’s central library. Its building is a true architectural marvel, both inside and out, and people who visit it can’t resist the splendor of its rotunda ceiling and the bronze Zodiac chandelier.

When it comes to food blogging, you really have to follow your gut. Take it from Danielle N. Salmon. The mastermind behind Follow My Gut, Salmon has amassed an impressive following online, thanks to her candid reviews and photos of the many restaurants of Los Angeles.

From reviewing eateries throughout LA (and occasionally internationally), covering food at the Emmy Awards and The Oscars, and interviewing chefs from around the world, Salmon is the kind of CEO (that’s Chief Eating Officer for you!) you’d want by your ear.

According to the 30 something-year-old, she visits about five restaurants a week. Her biggest challenge? Staying in shape! “The biggest challenge is probably buttoning my pants every morning,” she admitted in an interview with VoyageLA. “Eating out so much means my clothes don’t fit as well as they used to—but thankfully, I have a lot of sweatpants.”

All jokes aside, her food blog is a great introduction to LA culture. And slowly but surely, it has become a space where foodies of all types can discover their next favorite spot. You’d want to join in the conversation!

Santa Monica Pier is one of LA’s most visited attractions, and you can find numerous pretty great restaurants in its immediate surroundings. Here’s a couple of places where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy a nice meal after exploring the sun-kissed beaches of Santa Monica.

Bubba Gump Shrimp Company

Forrest Gump-inspired restaurant is one of the places at Santa Monica Pier that people tend to visit even if they don’t intend getting any food since you can take nice photos and buy souvenirs inspired by this movie classic.

The Albright

If you’re in the mood for the essential Santa Monica experience, this restaurant is your best pick. With a wide range of seafood options on its menu and amazing views from its open-air patio, you couldn’t possibly ask for more.

Pacific Park Food Court

If you’re not in the mood for a fine dining experience, and simply want something quick, tasty and familiar, Pacific Park food court is your best bet. You don’t have to pay amusement park admission to get in, but you’ll still feel some of the rush just by being there.

Most people who had a chance to visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame agree it’s a bit disappointing, but you can avoid feeling this way. Master the art of taking great photos at this tourist attraction with our tips, and your visit will be pretty satisfying.

Get Creative

You can take great pics on the Hollywood Walk of Fame without waiting for people to get out of your frame. Put on your favorite pairs of shoes, and snap a photo with your feet on the edge of the frame once you find the star of your favorite celebrity.

It’s Britney Bitch!

Floor Pics

Hollywood A-listers always get down on the floor to take a photo with their star, and for a very good reason. This is the best way to highlight the name of the star, and it allows you to get the rest of the busy street out of frame.

Prop Time!

If you really want to go the extra mile when taking your photos, bring some props along with you. You can take amazing snaps with the album of your favorite singer, or while rocking an outfit that pays homage to your favorite movie characters.
